Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
tunney is regarded as one of the smartest ring operaters in any weight and deserves this plaudit. he has too much of almost everything over mctigue who gained the title from siki who himself was perhaps fortunate to beat a less than tip-top carpentier.
a true great beats a good fighter (this time) late KO.
LEW JENKINS v ESTEBAN DeJESUS....WORLD LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE.

I think Jenkins KO's him, but DeJesus runs him a merry chase, especially early on. Jenkins KO12 DeJesus, IMO.

Tszyu finds the range eventually and starts dismantling em in the 10th and then proceeds to take out Castillo in the 11th.
Larry Holmes(1982 version) vs Riddick Bowe(1992 version) 8)
15 Rounds
Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Good match...
Both men exchange jabs from a afar, Holmes able to win the first two rounds.
From the third through to the 9th, Bowe is able to out muslce larry on the inside
and gain control of the fight. Back and forth action half way through round
nine to eleven makes it hard to pick a winner by this time.
Bowe starts to slow in the last rounds of the fight, Holmes rallying well from
the 13th to the end. He is able to to wobble Bowe in the 14th and last round.
Both men look exhausted and gave the crowd an incredible match.
Holmes gets the nod, a SD. Many feeling he won convincingly. The one judge
that had it for Bowe at it an incredible 13 rounds for Bowe and 2 for Holmes,
while the other judges had it 9 rounds Holmes, 1 even, 5 Bowe and
8 round Holmes, 1 even, 6 for Bowe.
Holmes SD15.
Tony Mundine vs John Mugabi 15 rounds....peak for peak.

One guy with good defense and skills, but suspect chin and stamina.
The other guy with no defense or skill, but a fairly solid chin.
Both men can punch, both men consistently fell short in their biggest fights.
I'd lean slightly toward Mundine in this, to score a KO against the naturally smaller, wide open Beast.
Mundine by TKO within 8.
Next up: Mike McCallum vs. Chris Eubank, middleweights.

nice match. I'm pretty sure Eubank himself said he wanted no part of McCallum, that he wasn't worth the risk/reward ratio. Eubank younger and stronger at this stage in his career, but he was always susceptible against fighters with consistent workrate throughout 3 minutes of 12 rounds. plus Eubank really, really didn't like it to the body. he can tag Mike with the occasional right hand but McCallum's jab and intelligent movement keep him from imposing his extra strength on Mike. Mike wins clear 115-113

Hmmm.I see they fought twice and the 1st bout they were technically Super Mw's even though back then, they were just basically small Light heavy's as SMW didnt exist yet...In they're rematch,i see they were at MW.That is rather peculiar.
I would have to assume that at LHW,Conteh would take it.Likely by Late round TKO.I'll say Round 12,Conteh gets em at 2:21 of the round.

I actually had a chance to see his first fight with Hernandez years ago, & a good chunk of the rematch in highlights form.
Personally, combining that with his record, I see no way for him to cope with Ward, whose left hook to the body scores a knockout on a bleeding & deflated Brooks in six rounds.

This would be quite a battle.
I'll have to say Trinidad by "Relatively Close but Clear Cut Decision".Wins on Workrate and Iron Will.
Blood,Guts and Burning Pride are the Main Factors.
Forrest was on a bit of a role but if Mayorga could end his O then i'm sure Trinidad could've done it just a bit sooner.

I'm gonna say Hatton, even with this slight scenario differential.
Hatton by a Rough and Tough Blood and Guts Decision.
115-114 114-113 115-112 for Hatton.Styles make fights and these two combatants exemplify this example even in a modified scenario.I just dont think that even a 2000 version of Tszyu finds the mark well enough to capitolize even if being a younger and slightly more explosive version of himself vs Ricky Boy.

Benitez has more trouble than some at ringside projected before the bout, losing the early rounds, & slipping in the later ones. Wright is on-song --- his jab is especially --- & surprisingly, effective. Nevertheless, Benitez proves a step above when he wants to, & eeks out a decision, 6-5-1, on a split.

Hopkins SD 12......
Rocky Marciano once said of George Chuvalo, that if all fights were 50-100 rounds nobody could beat George Chuvalo; Howard Cossell for intents and purposes said the same thing during the Holmes-Cobb bout, though he showed he couldn't stomach the one-sidedness of the fight, which in my book makes him a pussy...but anyways, lets put it to the test:
George Chuvalo vs Randall "Tex" Cobb, 100 rounds, 6 ounce gloves, three knock down rule is not in effect (like we would even need it in this matter)......who do you take?

Chuvalo in a stoppage through twenty messy, ugly rounds. No one's buying the PPV, that's for sure. Chins aside, I do believe Chuvalo was the gutsier, more resolute man, though both were hard fellows.

I wonder how many more rounds Chuvalo would have lasted against Foreman

I'm gonna say DLH.Why?...Meldrick Taylor had Chavez beat thats why.
DLH had the style.Chavez was made to order for a Boxer Like a Young Prime DLH.
DLH wins by a relatively close but pretty much clear cut MD.One judge has it even, the other two have DLH up by 2 and 3 points.Ref has it DLH by a point.Commentators have it a point or two for DLH.Most viewers agree that DLH deserves the slight nod given to em.

Re: Hypothetical Match-Up Game
Hard to say for sure, as I don't think Kessler's chin has ever been tested by the likes of McClellan. But if Kessler's chin can hold up, then I think he finds a home for his clean right hand against McClellan's wide open style, and he wins a wide decision with his better boxing and sharper hitting.Goodnight, Irene wrote: Mikkel Kessler & Gerald McClellan...for the Super-Middleweight championship of the world!

This Fight would be Awesome!
It would be a Real Fight!
I see both Boxers visiting the deck.Gatti in rd's 3 and 5 and Lopez in rd's 6,8,and 10.
Gatti gets busted up but keeps pressing.Lopez fights like a Bull as well but Gatti has a slightly higher punch connect total.
Gatti lands only 23 more power shots total over the 12 Round War... 48 more punches landed total.
Lopez Throws a total of 103 more punches and seems to be the slightly more aggressive combatant overall but Gatti is a bit too elusive and capitolizes on favorable counter punch abilities.
Judges see it 116-113,115-113,115-112

You can make 'em, that's for sure, Goon!
Camacho was really something, IMO, at Lightweight. Easy step-up of five pounds. It wouldn't have been a great tactical affair here, as Pryor struggles with Camacho's handspeed early. I feel Camacho was a little slipperier than given credit for --- & this sees him marginally ahead (mostly through taking the early rounds) when a storming Pryor comes on to hurt him in the eleventh, before stopping him late on in the twelveth. Pryor by TKO in a typically fireworks-laden festival of speed & power from both men.

(Anyone get that? No? Suit yourselves...) In a rematch, the fresher Leija boxes neatly, refuses to engage & leaves Micky looking befuddled & bemused; "As forlorn as a commuter standing on a platform watching his train depart the station..." to quote our own Graham Houston. Fairly wide over ten.
