But at least Froch isn't waiting until the last two years of his career to take on the biggest challenges, win or lose he has my utmost respect.

Well he waited 6 years to grab the bigget challenge In winning his WBC title against a prospect level fighter, he could of won one while Calzaghe only had the WBO. ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

Re: Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?
Froch has only been pro for six years you shitwit, what, was he supposed to challenge for a title in his first fight?
Froch has been trying to get a title shot for at least the last two years, it's not his fault he couldn't get a shot, he had to do things the hard way, Hennessy doesn't have the clout Warren did, he could't just get him an easy shot at a title. You are talking cobblers. Froch had people pull out on him and had injuries which kept him inactive also.
Calzaghe won the WBO title in 1997, and didn't unify until 2006 - nine bloody years later! Froch has just won his first title, and is looking to unify almost immediately - what does that tell you?
What a dumb ass comment.

If Froch takes on Kessler and gets beat then he gains more respect from me than taking on 5 RJJ's (current version). Even if Froch loses to Kessler it doesn't spell then end of Carl Froch, in fact it will probably increase his standing in the division if he puts on a good entertaining display and it will more than likely increase his chances of getting other BIG fights as he will have had plenty of BIG time exposure.
Win or Lose the best fighters should be testing their selves against other best fighters on a consistant basis.
Great fight if it happens and I really hope it comes off in 2009
Re: Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?
I'm sure that even you can see that you're talking rubbish here Max. Carl has had injuries and a few pullouts that have put his progress back abit, when were you expecting Froch to be challenging for World titlesMax Molyneux wrote:Well he waited 6 years to grab the bigget challenge In winning his WBC title against a prospect level fighter, he could of won one while Calzaghe only had the WBO.
How long did it take Joe to win a proper title? i.e one that doesn't let the promoter dictate who they defend against

So Froch has had injuries and couldn't get a title fight. Calzaghe had injuries and couldn't get a unification.
This goes back to the age-old argument about Calzaghe that was, who was there to fight?
If you go along the line that Calzaghe won the title at 25, it is probably realistic to say he should have been looking seriously for a unification fight or a big fight from 2000 onwards. Obviously a peak Jones was out of the division, while Ottke didn't want to fight. Warren probably should have gone for unification fights for WBA title and WBC (string of low-grade champions). But 2000-2003 was the time he struggled most with injuries and Hopkins backed out of a fight.
But what makes me laugh about this thread if the idea that you believe that Kessler-Froch will happen or is seriously being talked about for February.
Even if you thought that Froch/Hennessy would go in the deep end like that, he was cut and suffered a rib injury and would be going into the fight off an 8-week or less training camp, having had a 12-week training camp for Pascal. Don't be daft! Froch won't be back in action until at least April.
Also, the fight would have to go to Denmark. Kessler boxes at the national football stadium there, whereas Froch couldn't sell-out Nottingham Arena, which was only open to 3/4 capacity. Froch never boxed for the European title because he would have had to travel, would he travel to Denmark?
Realistic - I think not!
Re: Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?
I don't actually believe it will happen.
Both could do with fighting an American in order to get a US audience. Calzaghe-Kessler was a vital fight, but Calzaghe would have got a wider audience in IMO a lesser fight with Taylor.
Kessler wants to establish himself in America, fighting on US TV against decent fighters.
Froch can get a bigger profile
Kessler-Froch does have a market - Denmark, Germany, England. And as said above, it would probably entail a trip to Denmark. However, Froch-Kessler could be quite big if Froch does and wins his Taylor mandatory, and if Kessler establishes himself in the states.
Let's not forget, Kessler is massive risk for a rookie champ. Also, Kessler did not beat Calzaghe, so the fight goes in Joe's shadow. It's a needless risk, but obviously IF it did happen it would be exciting and we would respect Carl. Like Gobbles said, the window for this fight doesn't look realistic. If Froch was banged up (eardrum, ribs, cut) before the fight, he'll have felt much worst after 12 rds! and needs some rest.
Taylor appears to be on the horizon. If that works out, Froch won't have to go out looking for big fights. Let's not forget, Taylor may be awkward should the words "purse" and bids" be mentioned, and besides, I belive the fight doesn't have to happen til next autumn? In the meantime, Froch could try to fit in someone like Stieglitz or Murat, grow into the belt.

Re: Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?
Seems as though HBO won't accept Froch as an opponant for Taylor according to BTalk, so that may throw a spanner in the works. They want either Winky or Kessler for Taylor. I can understand Kessler, but Winky Wright is yet another member of the pensioners club who HBO keep giving dates and millions of dollars to. When the f**k are they gonna start investing in guy's who are looking for more than just another payday.
Re: Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?
Perhaps they just don't care as much as we do about British fighters? You can't knock Winky, and then Claim Froch as Box Office.ArtOfWar wrote:Seems as though HBO won't accept Froch as an opponant for Taylor according to BTalk, so that may throw a spanner in the works. I wish HBO would stop recycling their old fighters, Winky is an excellent boxer, but he's boring as fcuk. Wrong way round - it should be Kessler foremost - Calzaghe gave up fighting at that weight and is on the brink of retirement.Chambers2 wrote:If Calzaghe doesn't want the Froch fight then fcuk him, bring on Kessler and Taylor
Carl has done well to become world champion, its just unlucky that there's kessler, cos I think he beats any SMW.

Cheers for that Terry, I think I understand that concept now.Terry D wrote: We have to understand that just because a British guy wins a big fight, in exciting style to boot, it does not make him automatically a huge star. Nor does it mean the guy he has defeated is brilliant (Pascal) or if the roles are reversed that the other guy is going to be an ATG (Bradley).
Winky may be a royal pain in the arse but his last fight with Taylor was very good, and HBO screened it and want more of the same. Hatton's good work in getting HBO onboard the British express may have been undone by Calzaghe.
My argument was more that Winky won't have fought in over 18 months by the time the fight comes round and yet HBO approve him, Winky is an excellent boxer who is extremely difficult to beat, but he's not the most entertaining of fighters. I can't understand why they don't give the new breed (ala Froch) more chances to step up into the BIG time, instead of constantly recycling Nard, RJJ, Winky, Tarver, Vargas, DLH, Mosley, Trinidad, Quartey ...... they seem to be living in a 10 year timewarp IMO. Granted some of those are still are at the top of the game, but I think they should be doing more to building up the next generation
Re: Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?
That is your most pathetic remark yet Terry. What's up with you? HBO love Calzaghe. He might not have got great ratings in the US for Kessler or Jones, but he's still a big star to them - hence why they went overboard o the Hopkins fight. Yeah, they'd prefer American fighters, but if there aren't any, go with the decent Europeans. Calzaghe's a much bigger star to them right now than Klitschko, that's why they bailed of Klitschko v Peter, but HBO didn't want Hatton v Lazcano and they were only asking pennies, yet they went for Calzaghe v Bika and both were afternoon fights in the US.Terry D wrote:We have to understand that just because a British guy wins a big fight, in exciting style to boot, it does not make him automatically a huge star. Hauser speaks wisely on this, think it was Hauser. The top man at HBO, is it Greenberg?, doesn't know the modern fighters - he approves the fights and he knows Mosley, Jones etc.
They defo need to get Dawson, Kessler, Haye....exciting punchers under 30 on the network.

Yeah fair comment regarding them catering for the US market, I suppose I'm just annoyed that they won't step into line with my Froch plans. I am not big on terrestrial TV but say Eastenders was still pulling in viewers. You go to the BBC with a superior, in your view more exciting, product, yet the suits know that there is an audience there for Eastenders. Are they going to pull the plug to accommodate your, say, slacker stoner soap? No, they will shove it into a twilight shot and allow Eastenders to die on its arse night after night.
Hatton and Calzaghe both had to beat bigger names than Pascal in order to get the HBO deals.
Froch has won a vacant world title after a decent fight, he showed some god things, but there were many limitations, it got our blood going but that does not mean HBO are going to step in and sign him for a big fight, they have a US market to cater to.
It annoys me that it's difficult for fighters to get on HBO without having the BIG fight experience, but it's difficult to get BIG fight experience wthout HBO (USTV) being onboard, it's a catch 22.
With regards to Eastenders, if they stopped replacing the characters that die off then they'd soon have no characters left other than Dot Cotton and Phil Mitchell.
Re: Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?
Believe me I'm the last person to go down that route. If anything I'm anti-British boxing. However, I'm getting sick and tired of seeing Winky, Mosley, Hopkins, DLH, Jones etc eat up all of HBO's budget when none of them have a long term future in the sport. Not to mention we've already seen Winky/Taylor and although the decision was controversial it's not a fight I want to see again.states wrote:Perhaps they just don't care as much as we do about British fighters? Re: Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?
What about all the other champions Calzaghe could have fought who held the respective versions of the Super Middleweight title, Calzaghe failed to fight any of them! - oh except Brewer and Mitchell, who had already lost their titles. Are we seriously led to believe that Calzaghe desperately wanted all those fights, and that Warren either vetoed them, or they just couldn't be made. Come on mate, don't you think you are being a little naive.gobbles wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:Froch has only been pro for six years you shitwit, what, was he supposed to challenge for a title in his first fight?

I am willing to bet Froch will travel to Denmark if a serious offer is made to him to fight Kessler. Of course I cannot know for sure, but who was he supposed to travel to fight previously, wasn't he supposed to have an eliminator for the European title which fell through?
I agree the fight makes far more sense to fight in Denark however.
I think Kessler himself may well want this fight, he and Froch both seem like the type who want to take on the big tests, and are in a hurry to do so. If both men want the fight bad enough, it will happen. Of course if Kessler is contracted to HBO and cannot fight on any other network, then that makes things very difficult.
Re: Froch V Kessler 28/2/2009?
Well well well. HBO have turned down Froch for Taylor. If Taylor or Pavlik want it, then it does not matter. For now.
Meaning Taylor chooses either Winky or Kessler. Henc,e Taylor-Winky 2 - always the easier foe for the similar money - no titles, fat Wright turns up with no legs and no snap. This will be the most lethargic rematch of a good fight imaginable. (Alternatively, Taylor-Kessler and this is better.)
It does seem a poor choice. As I've said before Froch is marketable and he's exciting. Yes, now you have to look to other markets like Denmark and we can see why the Hennessy/Palle talks have seemed to open. Germany will be lucrative - if Taylor is turning down the mandatory (and he won't fihgt without HBO money, surely) - and it is veyr possible that a German promoter could win purse bids for something like Froch-Murat or Froch-Stirglitz. Hopefully Carl can plug away, score some sensational KOs, build some buzz.
Looks like Froch is getting some of what Calzaghe got. Remember when Larkin not only didn't want to put Calzaghe in big fights, but said he wasn't ready on account of Reid and Starie fights.
Just one thing: just cos HBO have turned Froch down, doesn't mean that Showtime will. Show Showtime a 50-50 type "trade fight" and they often are interested. Pick a promising American ala Andre Dirrell or Marcus Johnson when they look ready and this is another chance.
