first the jaclem2..i am still jaclem but my boxing email folder was getting to full, so i'm starting the new one here..i chose the same name because i didn't want enter here on a bogus one...

...while i am here, a quiz...this real life boxer, a heavyweight, played the title role in a movie based on a real life boxer, but fictionalized and using different names for dramatic purposes.

,,don't know if quinn was ever a real life boxer....but he isn't the one i'm looking for anyway.

...i should warn you all that this is a very nasty question and you're all going to get made at me when he's named.
if this goes too long i may even tell the name of the movie and you'll still be pissed.

oops..again, while am here , under this new name login i practically start all over again with my number of posts. i don't know what the total was on my other name, over 3000 i think. boxbuzz prints out all of my posts and then later rewords them as if his are original, so i'm sure he knows.

...palance may qualify as i think he was a fighter at one time...(he took a swing at me and missed, thank goodness, but that wasn't in the ring)...but he's not the guy i'm asking about.

further hint.....the title role does no necessarily mean it's the leading role.

wouter..BINGO!!!!!! i thought this one was a toughie..so congrats. tell me, did you know it before the "title role clue"? i haven't seen the movie since it played in theatres, but somehow beatty's name stuck with me at that time. i even remembered he was a southpaw. i've asked several people this and the first thing that gets them is "the title role" ..that almost always say james earl jones. if they catch on to that i tell them the name of the fighter as usually thay are just casual followers of boxing.

That was the most important clue I guess, since it automatically eliminated many titles. I knew Beattie was in that movie since a pic from that movie was on the cover of one of the first boxing books I ever read.
