Kell Brook to face Mark Lloyd for British title
Kell Brook to face Mark Lloyd for British title
Jan 30th, Brook is facing off against Mark Lloyd, the midlands area champion, who lost earlier this year in an English title challenge.
With no disrespect to Lloyd, I can't see this being anything other than a comfortable win for Brook.

Its down at the York Hall, not quite sure why really, as neither boxer is from London.

Re: Kell Brook to face Mark Lloyd for British title
I like Lloyd but I'm not sure how getting schooled by Ted Bami and beaten by Amar merits him a shot at Brook
Re: Kell Brook to face Mark Lloyd for British title
Lloyd is fortunate to say the least.
I know it's a voluntary, but this is where it all goes wrong. John O'Donnell looks like he might have to jump through hoops to get a crack and Lloyd, inferior in every possible way, gets a straight crack.![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

thought it might have been lomax instead of lloyd.

You wouldnt say that if it was you facing kell.

Look at the promoter.Counter-puncher wrote:I like Lloyd but I'm not sure how getting schooled by Ted Bami and beaten by Amar merits him a shot at Brook
Sorry, but Kell needs to be tested - he won the title aganst a decent, but not worthy co-challenge. Okay, McIntyre should have been harder - but it ended up alot easier.
Kell needs a decent fighter, and there are some very decent Welters out to test him.
Re: Kell Brook to face Mark Lloyd for British title
I don't see why Brook's 'splendid' promoter doesn't let Kell build on his win over McIntyre. It's the same wth the rest of his stable - he allows them to get one good win and then he lets them sit on their laurels. I would get Brook in with Lomax, at the very least and get him building towards a European title shot. He shouldn't be fighting Lloyd because, to be frank, the dude doesn't deserve a title shot, voluntary or not. I would personally bang Brook in Hatton, Anderson or Mutley over Lloyd. At least they'll bring a bit of 'excitement' and 'unpredictability' to our Friday Fight Night instead of repeats of the shite we just watched an hour ago.

Yes, you're right, he would be better than Lloyd, but I would prefer Bami to stay at 140lbs.

muttleys waiting for the eliminater fight though isnt he?
Re: Kell Brook to face Mark Lloyd for British title
I don't know, I just used him as an example. I suppose I could have used about 7 more potential domestic welterweight contenders that deserve this chance more than Lloyd, bring more to the table for Brook's experience and bring more excitement to the public.

Re: Kell Brook to face Mark Lloyd for British title
would just like to remind you that john o'donnell vacated his english title other than defend it against kell about 2 years ago.
there is better welters out there that would test kell more but kell doesn't pick who he fights.
kell's is now ranked 5th by EU and 7th By EBU.

Re: Kell Brook to face Mark Lloyd for British title
Sheffield's Kell Brook defends his British welterweight title against Midlander Mark Lloyd at the York Hall on January 30, a voluntary defence.
The big-hitting Brook comes off a dazzling first-round stoppage of mandatory challenger and previous champion Kevin McIntyre of Paisley a couple of months ago. It was an important win. Brook smashed the man who had never lost the title in the ring. McIntyre was beaten by injury, allowing Brook to pick up the vacant title with a seven-round thumping of Welsh southpaw Barrie Jones at York Hall last summer. McIntyre claimed that he was the rightful champion (and he did have a bloody good point) until Brook strode into the Scot's own manor of the Kelvin Hall in in Glasgow and proved otherwise. It took him two minutes. At 18-0 (11) the muscled, 22-year-old Brook looks quite a prospect.
Lloyd, a 33-year-old plumber from Telford, holds the Midlands welterweight title but was outscored in a 10-rounder for the English title by Nottingham's 21-1 Adnan Amar earlier this year in Nottingham. Lloyd proved competitive (97-95), and when Amar opted for a crack at Commonwealth title held by Craig Watson (December 18), found himself in the front seat for this crack. Lloyd took part in welterweight Prizefighter in the interim and was eliminated in a three-rounder by Brixton's rugged and experienced Ted Bami (points), a former European light-welterweight champion, but did outscore good Dewsbury southpaw Steve Conway. The challenger is strong, fit and willing but lacks the natural power of the champion and one can see Lloyd buckling at some stage of the 12-rounder, perhaps in the middle to later rounds.
Lloyd does have good stamina and durability.

There has no doubt been softer challengers for the Britsh title, but I still think the Board are making a good call here. Sad for Lloyd when you see it written in such away, but there is probably more deserving challengers (even voluntary ones) than Mark. Not sure a win over Maxwell makes all the difference, but it's a starting point.
I'd like to see Kevin Anderson get another crack. At least the pedigree is there, and Brook is a totally different style to McIntyre who simply had Anderson's number.

I don't understand the board sometimes they allowed Ian Napa vs Colin Moffett this year. I do agree they should push brook quickly as he has the talent to go somewhere.

Re: Kell Brook to face Mark Lloyd for British title
The Board are a funny bunch. I remember reading they wouldn't let Esham Pickering fight for Scott Harrison's British Featherweight title - even though he had fought for the WBO bantam title!
But in this case I think they are right. Its okay to make a voluntary but at least against a challenger who has a win or two which make him a creditable challenger. As Dioufy says, there are plenty of more deserving challengers out there. How about the winner of Watson- Amar - so the British and Commonwealth titles are unified? I hate it when the best in britain don't fight each other and we are denied potentially cracking domestic dust-ups.
