John Duddy
John Duddy identifies himself as Irish, he travels on an Irish passport and under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement (and previous arrangments) is considered an Irish citizen. His nickname and his heritage are also good reasons for identifying him as Irish. Not British. For what reason do Boxrec moderators ignore this? Is it just pettiness or is there any logical reason?

Re: John Duddy
Yes but is there any stated reason or could the culprits at least explain why this is?
It's extremely petty to record it wrongly.
I'm not a nationalist in the Sinn Féin sense, I dislike them, this is about accuracy. If
Boxrec or it's moderators would record data innaccurately just to score some extremely
petty point then it reflects extremely badly on the site and it's authority on boxing
records. What else will be recorded wrongly in order to score some point?

Re: John Duddy
We deal with thousands of boxers at this site, we don't have the means to decipher whether a Northern Irish boxer wants to be British or Irish, so we call them British.

Re: John Duddy
What about Cypriots? Do you call them all Turkish, or all Greek, or do you call them Cypriots?
Why not call them Northern Irish if you can't decide?
"Now I have a dual citizenship, I keep my Irish passport, of course, and have an American one as well." - John Duddy.
Do the right thing and change it.

Re: John Duddy
Do Northern Irish people usually hold Irish passports? If not, then Duddy is Irish, as he holds an Irish passport.

Re: John Duddy
Under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement anybody in the North is entitled to Irish citizenship. Some choose to
make this a reality and others don't. John Duddy does, exclusive to his British citizenship. Like Andy Lee, Duddy was
born in what is legally part of the UK and is thus a citizen of the UK but is qualified for and chooses Irish citizenship.
I'll repeat what I've said, this is a matter of accuracy, not politics. Great fighters from the North like McCullough and
McGuigan identify as British and have a great following all over the North and South. And Northern fighters fight for
"Ireland" in amateur boxing. It's a cross community thing and it's brilliant that boxing is one sport which brings people
together in Ireland, North and South. The only people who don't seem to realise this are Boxrec moderators who seem
to want to make this a divisive issue.

But why not go crazy and actually show the correct information if that information has been provided.tegenm wrote:We deal with thousands of boxers at this site, we don't have the means to decipher whether a Northern Irish boxer wants to be British or Irish, so we call them British.
I have an issue with them default being British but if boxrec has been contacted and informed that they dont hold British citizenship.
Also on that issue but a separate topic why is it decided that ALL boxers from Northern Ireland are automatically British instead of Irish? Especially now as the Good Friday Agreement, which gives parity in terms of British and Irish citizenship for those born in Northern Ireland, has been in place for over 10 years.
Most of all, lets keep this discussion civil and fact based if we can, because this has a tendency to a little bit silly.

I expected that kind of response from some "editors"AntonS wrote:yawn.jpg
Of course the issue is going to keep coming up again and again - all unresolved issues usually do!
