British P4P 2008
Re: British P4P 2008
Just for 2008 then.
1# David Haye
2# Joe Calzaghe
3# Ricky Hatton
4# Rendall Munroe
5# Ian Napa
6# Nicky Cook
7# Kell Brook
8# Jonathon Thaxton
9# Ryan Rhodes
10# Martin Rogan
Horse, I think it would put Haye up there with the best, I never said it would make him the best, nor the 2nd best. To beat Vitali, and become a heavyweight champion against arguably the toughest of all the heavyweights is an amazing feat. Coupled with the fact that he literally destroyed most of the elite crusierweights. He would definitely be in Britain's top 5 P4P (ever) for me.

Re: British P4P 2008
Duran,
Can you please explain how Witter is in there based on 2008 alone.
Two fights, one major loss, and a win against Castro - a fighter we were all struggling to find details of - including the Ingles.
He would be right in there in an overall P4P list but can't see how a place is justified for 2008 alone.

The underlined section of your quote at the top, from one of your earlier posts, suggested to me that you would consider Haye as one of the two best British boxers of all time.Dioufy wrote:Horse, I think it would put Haye up there with the best, I never said it would make him the best, nor the 2nd best.
Re: British P4P 2008
Actually, considering that I'm only 20-years-old I can only sort my rankings out on the fighters I have witnessed. I meant that he would be right up there as one of the best, behind, probably, Lewis, Hatton and Calzaghe. If you want to be pedantic, go ahead.
Re: British P4P 2008
I can put boxers I have never seen fight in my all time rankings based on their records and other people's opinions of them. I am sure that you could do the same if you wanted to.Dioufy wrote:Actually, considering that I'm only 20-years-old I can only sort my rankings out on the fighters I have witnessed.
I don't see how I was being pedantic. It seemed to me that you were saying that Haye would be in the top 2 British boxers of all time if he beat Vitali. To me that is a big call to make, and not something I thought should be left unquestioned.Dioufy wrote:I meant that he would be right up there as one of the best, behind, probably, Lewis, Hatton and Calzaghe. Re: British P4P 2008
I can see how it could've come across like that, but believe me, I meant David would be up there instead of there. And I only rate the fighters I have seen fight - that's my way, I like forming my own opinions on things. It's my right to do that if I want to.
Re: British P4P 2008
Of course it is you right to make your rankings the way you want to. But if you don't include boxers from the early years of the sport then is it really an "all time" list?Dioufy wrote:I can see how it could've come across like that, but believe me, I meant David would be up there instead of there. I can understand why you do it that way, but if I did it that way then I would feel my list was far too inaccurate to call it any sort of an all time ranking.

Re: British P4P 2008
Well, I just thought that the fight against Bradley could of gone either way, and he did well to come back and beat Castro convincingly. He is still a world class fighter.twenty six wrote:Duran,

Re: British P4P 2008
Horse, I just can't see how people can go off hearsay and fighters' records when compiling such a unique and complicated list. I only rank the fighters who I have seen fight, and I have seen a lot of old and recent fights consisting of Ali, Foreman, Eubank, Liston and so forth. I would judge them, but I haven't seen everyone fight, like the likes of Cooper, Dempsey and Monzon. I call it my list an "all-time" list because I feel I have seen enough fights, whether they be live or from the 30's to make a substantial contribution, instead of fabricating a list by going off other folks' opinions. And if Haye beat Vitali, then I will have him definitely in my British P4P top seven. People may not agree, but that's why it'll be my list, and no one else's. Hope my logic makes sense to you.

Re: British P4P 2008
I have no doubts about Witters abilities, and the fact he was World class.
However, to say the Bradley fight could have gone either way stretches my imagination - and I'm a staunch fan of Witter's.
Nothing wrong with the Castro performance, but with respect, who the hell is he ?

Yeah I agree that Castro is a bit of a nobody! But Bradley beat Witter tactically; it wasnt as if he was out-skilled or outclassed........ Witter has a lot of talent and I just thought that if I left him out then it would be disregarding his chances to have a great '09.

Calzaghe 3, Khan 6 and world champion Nicky Cook not in there ? Are you having a bubble or something ??brian13 wrote:1) Hatton

Also not sure how Haye can be below Froch - he's already unified his division with a better Ko rate over Froch. Froch hasn't had one defence let alone unified a division.

What a ridiculous answer! You're not serious?DuranTheGreat wrote:twenty six wrote:I have no doubts about Witters abilities, and the fact he was World class.

Bottom line - he was beaten comprehensively.
And have you forgotten how old he is? The chances of a great 2009 are pretty slim.
Re: British P4P 2008
I don't see how you can put Calzaghe up there for fights in 2008. In just his two fights he had fought guys with a combined age of about eighty, been quite big favourite with the odds and had big advantages in both fights.Finch wrote:1 - Calzaghe
I can see the logic for having up the list, but first? I don't think so, because there are other fighters that have come through more adversity and if we tell the truth, better opponents who were in their prime, like Hatton and Haye.
At least them two have been in fights where the vast majority of people thought the outcome was almost 50/50. In Joe's two fights he's been massive favourite, whereas Hatton/Malignaggi and Haye/Macca were more 50/50.
Re: British P4P 2008
Why is Ian Napa's name popping up on all these lists.
Seriously, what has he done other than loose everytime he goes in the ring with a decent fighter. Hes lost 6 times for gods sake. Yeah he's European Champ, but the quality of competition within Europe is substand in the lower weight classes. He hasn't even beat anyone good at all.
Record 18 wins 6 loses

2) Haye - Took control of the Cruiserweight divison, and has scared the heavyweghts.
3) Hatton - After a bit of a battering against PFP, he came back to prove he's the best at Light Welter
4)Carl Froch - Wins world title in a GREAT fight
5)Nicky Cook - Simply for winning a world title.
6) Kevin Mitchell - Good win over Johanneson, and is WBO champ.
7)Darren Barker - Proved to everyone that he's a real prospect, and, shoud go on to win the European title in '09
8) Rendall Munroe - Good year, best in Europe at his weight
9)Ian Napa - Won the European title, should have a good '09.
10)Martin Rogan - Made a real impact this year....... Prizefighter champ and put an end to Audley
How can you have Fighters such as Rogan and Barker above Jamie Morre, one of British Boxings true warriors, can't beleive he is not in anyones top 10...
Merry Christmas all!

Lennox Lewis is Britains best ever boxer. No doubt.Dioufy wrote:I agree if he beats Vitali then he'll be near the top, if not there, but at the moment I would still rank Haye's achievements (Mormeck, Frago, Macca, Barrett) above Froch's (Pascal, Magee, Reid), at this precise moment in time, mate.

It's supposed to be a list based on 2008 performances !!
I think you'll find Lennox has retired.

Re: British P4P 2008
If it's a current PFP list, the top 3 must be Calzaghe, Hatton, Haye in whatever order, although mine would have Calzaghe way out in front, followed by Hatton, then Haye.
If it's just rating 2008, I would have Calzaghe, followed by Haye, then Hatton. Top list is a pretty good one, but I wouldn't have Rogan on it and probably would have Murray and Skelton in contention.

Its a list based on 2008 performances, in 2008 he is 2-0, with a succesful defence of his British Title (Moffet, rated 4/10 in Britain and 99th in World) and a succesful challenge for the European Title (Ballone, 24th in World).JDC wrote:Why is Ian Napa's name popping up on all these lists.
