I remember that article - I must have bought the first ever edition of BM in that case. (Any prizes/dicounts for long time readers Glyn? )

You love the early 90s and the Benn-Eubank-Watson era don't you Greg? You rarely post about anything else!! :D

Fair play though - its an interesting read..

First Box Monthly had a great shot of Tyson on the cover I think, must be that issue, cause I think Holdsworth lasted only a single issue, before storming out

My first ever BM had a great shot of Holyfield holding onto the ropes after Bert Cooper shook him in Atlanta. That was a cracking photo, it was correctly ruled a knockdown. Eff me that must have been 1991 because Smokin' Bert was a sub for Tyson wasn't he?

I can remember Ian Darke's commentary vividly for that moment: "he's been caught by a right. Holyfields ALL OVER THE PLACE"

I did have the first one, until I discovered recently without asking my mother had chucked out a load of stuff she found belonging to me. I have seen the first BM fetching up to £300.

Really, mine is mint in a binder - I bought it as a back issue 10 years ago (or something like that).

Eubank is grossly underrated, landed far more right hand leads on Calzaghe than Jones, Hopkins or Kessler, dominated Rocchigiani nothing like Maske, Michalczewski or Nunn, said he'd take Benn and Watson out (even after their jaw-gaping barn-stormer he was ringside for) and did. I don't think Calzaghe would have remained undefeated in 19-20 world title fights if he fought every six weeks instead of every six months - probably wouldn't have come close.

In fairness to Calzaghe - Benn, unlike Calzaghe turned in some truly awful fights against very mediocre opposition. He was lucky not to be disqualified in one, and should have lost the decision in at least two other fights as I recally.

Calzaghe has only really had two close and disputable decisions, one against Reid, and the other Hopkins, both were far more than mediocre opposition.
