Has to be Benn-McLellan for me.

Another fight I'd mention (and one I'd never watch again) for the event and the live 'will he won't he?' element then Bruno-McCall has a warm place in my affections.

Has nobody mentioned Akinwande-Welch?

Rigby v Ayers.

I cannot help but have that what happened to Gerald, puts me off enjoying that fight, watching a man almost bludgeoned to death in the ring leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

To be fair, Mcllellan was not taking a pasting in the fight. It was brutal affair, no doubt, but I think Benn actually took the worse beating over the ten rounds.

I have watched the fight countless times and it clear what happened. Benn thrw an overhand right in the 9th round and missed, he followed through and caught Mcllellan flush with his head (accidental). Nethertheless, this butt was the blow that injured Mclellan. He starts blinking straight away and continues to blink until the end of the fight. If you look, no clean punches put him down. His brain was obviously clotting as he fought on. in the end he simply had to go down.

It was of course a tragic end to a brutal fight. Benn fought rough in that fight and I woulkd say that the ref was not exactly on Mcllelans side either. Who knows how it would have gone without the headbutt?? The round before the butt Benn was taking a serious hammering and went down for the second time.

Both fighters were immensly brave that night, not least Mcllellan (stepping up in weight for the first time and fighting overseas for the first time).

The end was result was a near brain death for McClellan, so he obviously got the worst of it.

I always thought the head but caused it, but it's very hard to say with any real certitude. It could just be that was when the effects were first felt - there was however a very clear point where he started blinking.

I have no doubt that the referee should have stopped Benn in the 1st round, and he clearly prevented McClellan for stepping in for the kill early on for no apparent reason - I always suspected he'd been asked to make sure the contest went a few rounds.

my feelings exactly. rigby v ayres had everything in a good, clean sporting contest and the finish was the best i've ever seen. it was everything good about boxing packed into one fight.

Someone should make a documentary on that fight, it is truly amazing - it's the only time I can recall the participants themselves ending a boxing match.

In truth Ayers should really have been disqualified, because he turned his back and refused to participate any farther, however the ref looked over at Rigby - and Rigby nodded, and the ref did the sensible thing, rather than apply the letter of the law.

In fact, if I ever get the chance, I'd make a documentary on it myself.

Anyone on here know how to get in touch with Wayne Rigby or Michael Ayers? Not heard anything about either of them in recent times.

I remember screaming at Richie Davies to stop the fight - couldn't believe he allowed Carl Thompson to carry on - then what goes an happens - Carl pulls the punch of his life out of the bag to knock Rothman cold!!!

Richie often speaks about that fight and says Thompson was literally one punch away from being stopped - all Davies wanted was another punch from Rothman to stop the fight - bloody hell can't believe I forgot about that fight!!!

Long time since I saw it but didn't Thompson come out with two awesome punches when on the way to being stopped against Rothmann? I think it may have been an uppercut in the 6th but don't quote me on that.
