Would you...
Re: Would you...
DLH's corner didn't want him to continue, the DOCTOR didn't like his responses, and the ref said "one more time you lie on the ropes I'm stopping it".
DLH didn't beg for the fight to continue, but he wasn't give much choice. The only person who wanted to pull Ali out vs Holmes was Dundee, not even Brown, no Dr or the ref. Yet Ali didn't quit.
Did Frazier quit vs Ali - he didn't really protest much. So what is the definition of quitting.
Amazing - that the ending of the Colin Lynes the night before generated comments from 2 posters - no one else seemed to question his ticker. Then DLH gets beaten up from one corner of the ring to another - with 10-8 rounds (with no KD) - in a fight when even fighters were saying "pull him out corner"... rounds before hard as nails fighters like Watt and Hatton, and yet he quit.
Stick to the dive against Hopkins, DG - its a much more valid arguement.

Re: Would you...
I agree, Stu, everyone was saying that Oscar should've been pulled out earlier, even Hatton came on and said it should've been stopped two rounds prior. I think Oscar showed courage when under fire from someone who was catching him at will all night long.
And was I one of the posters to question Lynes' choice to pull out, Stu? I can't remember.

Well, it got me thinking, go ot on your stool or shield.stujones wrote:

Oscar CHOSE stool in my opinion. He is the Boss, he can do what he likes.
Nobody pulled Ali out - and it would not surprise me to hear ALI told them NOT to pull him out.
Who knows.
Stool or Shield..
Shield!
It's a matter if choice, there is no right or wrong.
Re: Would you...
Do you have any clips on when you're fighting in a professional ring, against a professional fighter then, DG?
Re: Would you...
I mentioned it, someone said he should retire cause that is twice he has done it. I replied saying he is a confidence fighter and wouldn't write him off yet - cause he went on (after the first time he retired on his stool) to have his best run and suggested a couple of easier ones next time. Colin seems to do badly after a defeat, then gets his confidence back gradually.Dioufy wrote:I agree, Stu, everyone was saying that Oscar should've been pulled out earlier, even Hatton came on and said it should've been stopped two rounds prior. DG - Bundini Brown and Angelo Dundee were fighting in the corner, as Ali came back at the end of the 10th... Brown saying one more, Dundee saying "he has had enough" - Ali said nothing throughout and then Dundee called the ref, while Brown was telling him "no", and he said "I'm the chief second and I stop the fight".... Ali said nothing, and didn't protest after the fight at all - was dignified, like DLH was - he didn't do a Malignaggi.
Re: Would you...
My opinion - if a guy is giving his best, which may not be good enough - but is good enough to be making a fight of it, then yes, I`d imagine he would prefer to go out on his shield. Its a macho thing win or lose.
But if your losing, and it isn`t even close and your being made to look foolish/bad ... then yes, quit on the stool.
I always think when you read "he died doing what he loved" is just somebodies family trying to turn a heartbreaking situation into some sort of positive to lessen their loss and kinda find a reason as justification .. kinda clutching at straws :(

Re: Would you...
I think there are massive discrepancies between the Lynes pull-out and Oscar's one, and I can differentiate between the two. Colin wasn't really taking a massive beating, he was just losing round after round. McCloskey's power hadn't really bother Lynes, it was his slickness and his speed that Colin couldn't cope with. Colin quit because he was tired and he thought he wasn't going to win - I can't really condone that because Paul constantly had his hands down and had already been hurt in the second round. I feel Colin still had a chance to catch Paul clean and knock him out if he was lucky, but he quit, and that's wrong in my eyes.
Oscar was taking a pummeling from one of the hardest P4P hitters on the planet - he hadn't shown potential to even catch Manny, nevermind knock him out. His health was in danger and his corner did the right thing in pulling him out, and to safety.

Your point?
Have a day off, son!
If Pro fighters take the time to answer the question 'Would you...Shield or Stool' then what right do you have to ask a daft question like that to me?
The fact that Mooresey and Coco gave us an insight into their mindset should be enough for you.
Have a day off, its Christmas!

But have Jamie Moore and Coco been in with one of the hardest, and fastest punchers in the world?

Re: Would you...
I can't comprehend DG's ignorance to the fighters he dislikes. Oscar took an absolute hounding off the best fighter on the planet, and arguably, one of the biggest hitters. Did you honestly expect him to shout down the place when his corner pulled him out - he was probably more relieved that his corner did retire him, rather than him quit. Everyone, and I mean everyone, wanted him pulled out earlier because his safety was in real jeopardy. I don't care if Coco would've risked his life in battle against Lynes or Earl, because those two fighters are a million miles off Pacman. I mean Oscar could've been seriously hurt if he protested that he wanted to carry on. It's silly and stupid to say that Oscar should've risked everything and everyone he cares about to go on for the full 12 rounds. I am flabbergasted to the point that I may not even reply to DG's predictable response. He's truly a fornicating nonce who has no idea what it's like to be in a ring against one of the best in the world, but perhaps when you do achieve that feat and practice what you preach, regarding going out on your shiled, or like a man, and then I might take you seriously, but until then, shut the feck up, you half-wit.

But that's irrelevant because Pacquiao's punches did hurt Oscar, and marked him up good and proper.

DG and ignorance have no common ground.
Oscar got exactly what he thought he would dish out to Pacman - a career Superfeather whom while talented was given fits by JMM and in my book lost!
Pacman would not beat Jamie Moore(a BIG light Middle). I am not sure Pacman beats Hatton!
You may suck Oscars balls - but I do not.
Making a mockery of the sport by calling it his 'Dream Fight' while trying to steal the P4P title vacated by PBF?
How brave!
Pacman had 1 fight at Lightweight and Oscar thought he would knock him out cold.
Vernon Forrest ( as you know nothing about Boxng - he is a Light Middle at present who twice defeated SSM) said he wants to fight JMM(?) next because that is the same as Pacman fighting Oscar.
Hurl insults all you like, because I know 1 thing for damn sure, you could only say it behind your keyboard.
Calm yourself, its a frum - if you don't like the topic then do not read it or start your own.
As for Coco and Jamie Moore not fighting a 'Pacman' - you show your ignorance of the sport.
Coco for example must have fought people with far greater talents than his own so in a sense he has faced a higher level of fighter than Oscar has faced based on Oscars talent which is meant to be World Class. There is no higher than World Class!
When Mooresey stepped in and beat Michael Jones for the title - he was fighting someone who was deemed to be a better fighter at the time so he has fought his own Pacman.
Oscar and Pacman were both supposedly World Class = basically same level.
Pacman might be a b level fighter - Oscar is a C+ class fighter on the World Stage these days, but take into account the fact Pacman is small and Oscar big it evened it out or Oscar was meant to be a the favourite!
Now, leave DG alone or I will crush you.

If that were a Cotto or even a Judah or a REAL WELTER landing those shots Oscar would have been cooked.
Forbes had him marked up badly also.
Hurting and marking up Oscar is no big deal these days.
I do not recall Oscar being really shaken against Pac man!

How silly to keep referring to yourself in that sense.DG and ignorance have no common ground.
I didn't dispute that at all.Oscar got exactly what he thought he would dish out to Pacman - a career Superfeather whom while talented was given fits by JMM and in my book lost!
I never said otherwisePacman would not beat Jamie Moore(a BIG light Middle). I am not sure Pacman beats Hatton!
Huh? I don't suck his balls at all.You may suck Oscars balls - but I do not.
I agree, but again, did I ever dispute this? Dioufy say, no, no, no.Making a mockery of the sport by calling it his 'Dream Fight' while trying to steal the P4P title vacated by PBF?
So did I, but that point was never disputed by myselfPacman had 1 fight at Lightweight and Oscar thought he would knock him out cold.
And? I have not contradicted myself hereVernon Forrest ( as you know nothing about Boxng - he is a Light Middle at present who twice defeated SSM) said he wants to fight JMM(?) next because that is the same as Pacman fighting Oscar.
I can say, seemingly, ditto.Hurl insults all you like, because I know 1 thing for damn sure, you could only say it behind your keyboard.
I can post where I like when I like, and it's irrelevnt whether I like the topic or not.Calm yourself, its a frum - if you don't like the topic then do not read it or start your own.
It's fact, Pacman dwarfs any of their competition, so in the case of Pacman/Oscar the have no say because they were never put in that position against such a dangerous and powerful fighter. As for Coco and Jamie Moore not fighting a 'Pacman' - you show your ignorance of the sport.
Good point, but has retired from fights before, going off his record. If I am wrong, I apoligise, mate.Coco for example must have fought people with far greater talents than his own so in a sense he has faced a higher level of fighter than Oscar has faced based on Oscars talent which is meant to be World Class. In talents he was better, but in power, I don't think he could've seriously hurt Moore on the same level Pacman could've hurt OscarWhen Mooresey stepped in and beat Michael Jones for the title - he was fighting someone who was deemed to be a better fighter at the time so he has fought his own Pacman.
Once again, I never disputed that.Oscar and Pacman were both supposedly World Class = basically same level.
I, for feck's sake, didn't dispute that again. Just because the sized evened it out doesn't mean that Oscar wasn't at danger by carrying on, which is was.Pacman might be a b level fighter - Oscar is a C+ class fighter on the World Stage these days, but take into account the fact Pacman is small and Oscar big it evened it out or Oscar was meant to be a the favourite!

Dioufy, you are a Oscar lover, fair enough.
I have 'laced em up' - but wtf has that got to do with anything?
Have you 'laced em up'? and I don't mean your girdle!
Will to win is will to win whether it be in a ring or in life.
Now, go and put your bra and panties on and go to bed!

Re: Would you...
I was retired in my second fight v Roy Rutherford, Pat Cowdell waved it off when the round finished, I didn't have any choice, I wanted to continue and there was only one round left. He went up to the ref, and it was accepted, I only realised as it was being called off.
I was gutted, I would have never have done it myself, but Pat did the right thing my nose and hand were both bust.

Re: Would you...
Did you protest the decision of your corner, not suggesting that it would mean you "quit" if you didn't - however, just saying just cause Oscar didn't pull a Malignaggi and moan to the corner - doesn't mean he wanted to sit on his stool.Coco wrote:I was retired in my second fight v Roy Rutherford, Pat Cowdell waved it off when the round finished, I didn't have any choice, I wanted to continue and there was only one round left. I just think it was getting to painful to watch anyway (the DLH fight) - Hatton, who outlasted Tszyu, who fought till he dropped against Mayweather, and showed balls against Magee was calling for the fight to be stopped.... as was Watt - and how many wars did that guy survive.
Listening to your corner, trusting them is a good thing. Frazier and Ali did that.
Re: Would you...
I protested to Pat, and he quickly put me in my place, the fight was already waved off before I could have protested to anyone else, and I wouldn't have done because I trust and respect him.
While he was getting me work as an opponent he still always had my health as a priority, and tried to earn me a few quid too.
I think a lot of the man and consider him a good friend and exactly the same goes for Ron Gray
