How overrated was that?
Just watched Hagler-Hearns again for the first time in many a year last night, I admit the first time I watched it I got a twinge in my knickers, but In all honesty it was only competitive for 20 seconds

It was a great fight, but Hagler - Mugabi was better and more competetive.Hagler2002 wrote:Just watched Hagler-Hearns again for the first time in many a year last night, I admit the first time I watched it I got a twinge in my knickers, but In all honesty it was only competitive for 20 seconds
Re: How overrated was that?
I actually agree, the first minute was fun but the fight itself is overrated
Re: How overrated was that?
Got the same feeling when I watched it Tuesday. Still a great fight, but I watched Holyfield/Qawi 1 the night before and that was a brilliant fight. I hadn't watched it in a year or two, but that has to be the best fight I've ever seen. It lacks the drama of some fights, but it's 15 rounds of constant punching with no clinching from two warriors. Unbelievable!Hagler2002 wrote:Just watched Hagler-Hearns again for the first time in many a year last night, I admit the first time I watched it I got a twinge in my knickers, but In all honesty it was only competitive for 20 seconds

Hands down, the best action fight of that decade, clearly superior to Hagler-Hearns, IMO (Which I do feel was utterly tremendous) was the simply sublime Pryor-Arguello I.
Talk about under-appreciated --- while not a low-profile fight by any means, that bout's action level is criminally forgotten. Best action fight of the decade. Sans none

You sick git!!
Re: How overrated was that?
2 fighters of their calibre and stature choosing to meet fire with fire straight off the bat is a pretty rare thing in this sport, I'll never forget the first time I saw the fight and despite there being better fights, more competitive back-and-forth affairs... this one was special.

For a fight that only lasted into the 3rd round; it was great. It's more fun to watch great fights that lasted longer. However, you will be hard pressed to find a better fight that lasted less than 3 rounds.
Re: How overrated was that?
I don't think Hagler v Hearns was overrated at all. Sure the 1st round was the best, but the rest was hardly boring. Gotta love a fight where Tommy Hearns comes in with the plan to knock Marvin Hagler out in the 1st round.
Re: How overrated was that?
Could be the best 1 round in boxing history.
After all this time it could well still stand.
Hagler v Hearns overated.
You must be new here.
Hey,I'll put my hands up to making below par statements.
Hagler v Hearns overated and over in 20 seconds, either you are screwing about or trying to make a name for yourself.
Total rubbish.
Hagler v Hearns is a gem.
