Oscar is a natural welterweight. He was too big for light welter, FFS. He was beating 130 and 135 pounders so he could pick up titles with weight and height advantage - nearly backfired vs JJ Molina, no? a strong super feaher who didn't fold.

He was fighting guys about his own size in Quartey and Tito. Quartey was ineffective at anything other than welter, IMO (just compare his best fights at 147 to the Vargas fight at 154 - big difference).

Oscar picked on Quartey after he'd seen Quartey downed by JL Lopez, after Quartey had a layoff, and after Quartey was apparently comntemplating retirement, or suffering from some sort of illness.

Oscar wasn't ALWAYS a natural Welterweight, thats why he could make Super Feather and was effective as a Super Feather - and gradually worked his way up as his body grew. Hence why he fought for 12 hard rounds at Lightweight against Molina. Yes, he fought his fair share of guys moving up and I never thought he was comfortable at Super Feather - but his best performances were at Lightweight, Lightwelter and Light Middle - Light Middle because he fought with an added experience and his speed came into his own.

The power was on the decrease at Welter - hence the comments that he is not a natural Welter in most of his fights.

Yes, Quartey had more success at Welter - although 2 very close world title losses (one robbery) and a credible loss vs Winky were not bad. But he was a big Welter - just like DLH was a big Super Feather when he fought there. He had to boil down from huge weights to make 147. That is why he had a few non title fights at 154 when he was the champion and that is why he has had most of his fights post DLH at Middleweight.

But, hang on - DLH gets the criticism for the fact that Quartey hadn't fought in a year - that was the "reason" why he won.... but when he does the same for Vargas - a good fighter, better than anybody Quartey has beaten, it was down to the weight. Quartey was coming off a 14 month lay off (and a pretty bad loss) for that one. Off course there is no chance that DLH might have knocked some fight out of him.

I personally feel that anyone who thinks that Oscar took a dive against Hopkins are naive and a little bit silly. Looking at that shot, it's a good one. In his reaction he's pissed off and angry - that's what I expect from fighters who have been KO'ed.

Yes, it crumbles him there and then and you are right - Oscar reaction was AFTER he got KO'd... alot after. He had received medical attention before the canvas hitting, and he was still to fucked to get up. Fighters don't stay down if they have quit.
