Just seen who Nicky Cook is going to face in the 1st defence of his European belt and to be fair, despite this kids record i think its a good choice.
Opponent - Johny Begue
Record - Won 12, 4 KO's, Lost 13, Drawn (1)
To look at this record you think its gunna be a walkover for Nicky but i think its a clever fight for Nicky, the opponent isn't a puncher (4 Ko's), has only been stopped once (Corner retirement) which makes me believe this could be a 12 rounder - a chance for Nicky to get more rounds under his belt.
By the way who picks European fights, is it the EBU board or Nicky Cooks camp???
Any Views???
Nicky Cook (Good choice of next opponent)
Yeah, decent opponent. He's lost three times to Cyril Thomas who Cookie beat for the European title - but that doesn't automatically make it a walkover for the lanky Dagenham man. Begue is tough and experienced as you say, and is fresh for a 35-year-old (26 fights in nine years as a pro). Cook will do well to stop this guy.
Re: Nicky Cook (Good choice of next opponent)
I think Cook has the option of a couple of voluntary defences (ie, softer fights), before the EBU enforce his mandatory, which is Dazzo Williams i think. I'm not 100% on this, but it's what i've been lead to believe.Foggy wrote:By the way who picks European fights, is it the EBU board or Nicky Cooks camp???
