There is account of Billy Gray's May 22, 1968 fight with Roosevelt Eddie in the May 31st, 1968 issue of the Boxing News that indicates that Gray retired from the fight in his corder the 6th round was fought. The account says as follows:
"After being retired on his stool, tired and blowing after the sixth round by his seconds, the next stop for the ex Walsall police cadet is the doctors surgery for a complete overall."
Later in the article:
"Gray came out for the fifth flatfooted with hands a little low but managed to offer some resistance as eddie bore forward. But the end was now in sight and after shuffling through the sixth, seeking to clinch and find safety at close quarters Billy was retired in his corner."
