FLASHBACKS - 1959, 1969, 1979, 1989 and 1999

Post by Zelley »

With 2009 fast approaching, it would be interesting to take a trip down memory lane to recall
some of the happenings of the years ending in 9.

Looking back to 1959, there was action and excitement in the ring and beyond the last bell.
There were some fine champions such as Floyd Patterson, Archie Moore, Gene Fullmer,
Don Jordan, Joe Brown, Davey Moore, Jose Becerra and Pacual Perez. But waiting on the footsteps were the likes of Sonny Liston, Benny Paret, Eder Jofre. and Pone Kingpetch.

Fast forward from 1959 to 1969 on the "flashback express" and we have a new batch of champions like Joe Frazier, Bob Foster and Lionel Rose and many contenders
punching their way to the top such as Andy Kendall, Alan Rudkin, Jerry Quarry,
Tom Bethea, and Ernie Lopez. However, Muhammed Ali was still the hot topic of
discussion and debate.

In a flash, 1979, 1989 and 1999 have come and gone with changes, controversy,
champions and contenders such as Robert Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Danny Lopez, Carlos Zarate, Meldrick Taylor, Mark Breland, Frank Bruno and Mike Tyson.

But let's not forget Mike Weaver, John Conteh, Alan Minter, the Spinks brothers.
Lupe Pintor and Johnny Owen. or the members of the Kronk Gym such as Hilmer Kenty.
