It was a good low key documentary let down by the 'verge of becoming an all time great' & 'greatest boxer to ever come out of Scotland' bollocks at the start. It was a compelling story and didn't need over-egging.

Well i can't see him being allowed into the US with a criminal record to box from there. He should have done that earlier. I thought that if you had a trial pending the police would take your passport off you but he seemed to be able to pop over to Spain no problem.

It seems amazing now that his self control and focus took him as far as it did before it all turned to shit. Seems he's really a drunk who used to be a good boxer rather than a boxer who turned to drink.

A part I found fascinating, why Peter Harrison (in his words) said that they were told to avoid Chacon.

Chacon was one of the poorest champions I have seen, got a gift vs Polo (IMO), small, slow, with no jab or head movement.

Shows how safety first SN are, if they (and I assume it was them he meant as the they) thought Chacon should be avoided.

nice one :TU:
Would really love to watch this but I'm out in the U.S. so the iPlayer doesn't let me view it. Does anyone know if there is any other way I can watch this? Short of jumping across the pond.

Was a great doc really enjoyed it, i think if the board had given him his licence back when he was heavy at training he might have turned things around seem's he started drinking again through having no fight date, how hard would it be to put yourself through that kind of training and dieting when you dont even know if you will fight again. It's a tragic story and would be great if he could come back and win another title, doubt it though he's mistreated his body to much to be able to fight at that level again.

Yeah I noticed this - He needs to look in the mirror if he wants to lay some blame on anyone.

Cheers Shirow

I hope Scott can sort his head out and the BBBC give him his license back if he proves his commitment to the sport, watching that excellent doc makes you appreciate how much he needs and wants it. That court case in Spain is worrying though.

To be fair if you look at Harrisons & Chacons records at the time that they met, it looked a tough ask.

Harrison was 17-1-1, Chacon was 42-2 and a World Champion. Adventurous matchmaking for SN.

Going by memory, I think most favoured Scott in that one. He was that good a fighter, outside of the P4P boys, you'd feel he was a solid fave to beat just about anyone.
Obviously not always the case, but he was such a tough, solid fighter, unfazed by anything and with an iron chin, he was going to give anyone a hell of a fight.
It's a disaster that we're already saying WAS, instead of IS.

Whatever way you look at this - the Scott Harrison debacle is tragic for boxing - very very sad to see a fighter suffer so much with the problems in his head.

Scotts dad is a top top man - I feel especially sad for him - its not good to see a son go the way Scott has - not good at all.

That was sad viewing indeed. I was always Scott Harrison's biggest fan, and even when he had all the trouble I still found myself wanting to see the guy do well.

I said a few years back that I saw Scott as being more of a Benny Lynch than a Ken Buchanan or Jim Watt. Sorry to say that I was right.

His tells the story of Scottish sport in general. All the talent in the world but then pissing it all away with drink.

He seems to be blaming everyone except himself, and he doesnt seem to realise the seriousness of the things he has done. He isnt an ordinary man, he is a lethal fighting machine and could very easily kill someone. He has to be punished by the system but he also needs treatment as well. What an arsehole expecting others to clean up for him at home. I expect another incident over Christmas or New Year, he will almost certainly go on a drinking binge and get into a fight. What a stupid time to let him out. One of his problems is, apart from boxing he has nothing in life that interests him and no other work that he can turn to. So much talent has just gone to waste.

I'm not sure I 'fully' agree, Scot has a lot to be blamed for, sure, but when you think, (KNOW) how provocative people are, Scot Harrison walked away from a lot, and just like you and I he 'at times' gave into preasure... so blame is not always apparent.

I spoke with Harrison's dad at the SBHOF and he is quite distressed with the whole thing and dare I say it, there are a lot of stupid people in Scotland who 'revel' at the down fall of others, without having the sence to understand that they are dictating and setting the standard for equall treatment with greater consequenses coming from the Southern Hub of power!

Scot Harrison, _uck Scotland, but for Britain's sake should be reinstated!

Thats what has been going through my mind, could he not have just fought abroad? Perhaps his pending court cases were preventing him from doing that?
Well he may not be allowed enter the US but what I couldn't understand is why didn't he try and get a license to box in Ireland ?, he could still train and base himself out of Scotland, all he'd have to do is get in contact with an Irish promoter(I'm sure Brian Peters would have him) and obviously apply for a license here(which I reckon would be accepted by the BUI unlike the BBBofC).

He wouldn't be able to win the British title obviously as the BBBofC wouldn't sanction the fight, but he could still fight for the Commonwealth and European titles. Ireland's not in the Commonwealth but they'll still sanction fights to take place here, eg Booth v Hughes. They also sanctioned Witter v N'Dou in the US.

Also I think if he was able to box in Ireland for any sustained period the BBBofC would probably re-grant him a license before too long.

i could be wrong, but i doubt scott harrison would take one from anyone. you can say he's a drunk, and messed up alot of oppertunities, but i wouldnt mess with him,and im not sure many people would have the testosterone to.

i have to point out that i have a certain sympathy towards him, having had my own substance abuse/legal problems.i dont however think that cloud's my judgement regarding the afformentionned Harrison.he is a bad man.

Former world champion Scott Harrison was released from prison on Wednesday in time to celebrate New Year.

The 31-year-old was freed after serving four months behind bars.

He emerged from the main gate of Barlinnie prison in Glasgow just after 8am, dressed in a grey suit and white shirt and carrying a plastic bag with his belongings.

He refused to comment but gave a thumbs up sign as he was driven away in a red taxi.

Harrison was jailed earlier this year for a total of 10 months on a series of charges.

The boxer was imprisoned on September 2 for two months for assaulting his girlfriend and a police officer, four months for drink driving and two months for breaking a night time curfew, a condition of bail while drink driving.

He received an additional two months the following week after he admitted punching a stranger in the face on a night out.

His prison term was reduced by two months earlier in December and he was released after serving half his sentence.

(reopens) At the Court of Appeal in Edinburgh, Lord Kingarth ruled that the sentences for the drink-driving and bail breach could run concurrently rather than consecutively, reducing that particular sentence to four months.

In the drink-driving incident, the boxer from Cambuslang near Glasgow was caught nearly four times the limit as he drove down Laurieston Road, in the Gorbals area of the city at about 9pm on August 29.

Officers found he had 137 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

In the assault incident, Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Harrison hit his partner Stacy Gardner, after she went to his Cambuslang home on the evening of May 26 to comfort him following the death of his uncle.

A neighbour witnessed the assault and called the police and Harrison assaulted one of two officers who arrived to investigate.

The court heard the boxer had been receiving counselling for an alcohol problem.

Harrison is a former WBO world featherweight champion but has not fought in three years.

His licence has since been revoked by the British Boxing Board of Control.
