Earl has definately had his day. Maybe stay in boxing training lads. He should quit now off his own bat before the issue is decided for him. (Not back - if you do something off your own bat, you do it without anyone else telling you or asking you to do it).

Not sure, but Witter? His plans don't seem to be very clear at the moment, although I might simply have missed a thread. Hard to say really where he will go.

Also, Esham Pickering- nice guy, but I can't see his career being much more than the "opponent" role from now on, but then- never say never.

There are also guys like John Simpson, Jon Thaxton and Ryan Rhodes- success will almost certainly mean they carry on, but defeats at this stage probably will bring the curtain down on their long careers.

I agree with the points you make. As far as Witter is concerned, I think he still has plenty left and just needs a bit of luck getting some decent fights.

John Simpson, retire? I don't think so, because even though he's had a few defeats, they have mostly come against very top domestic fighters, mainly, Mathews, Foster and Appleby. He also has Truscott soon as well, another top prospect.

My point, which I'll stand by, is at their age guys like Thaxton and Rhodes, with the length of the careers that they have had, mean that defeats in 2009 may well mean the end of their long careers.

Regarding Witter- what is the guy actually doing? As I say, if he were to mount a successful challenge for a belt, his career would be well on track, however a defeat...

That could happen with Jennings, which would be a real shame for him. However, I think he will lose in the WBO title challenge, but look credible and maybe be in line for European level title fights.

I do concede though if he does not win then he seriously needs to look at his options - but Clinton is as honest as they come he won't need anyone telling when to go - he has told me straight this is his last shot at something big - if it doesn't work out then he has had one dam good career - better than many who showed promise and failed to deliver - Clinton has legitimately won a world title and defended it and how many boxers can say that?

To be honest commenting on this thread gives me that uncomfortable feeling - its a thread worthy of discussion and people have a right to their opinions - its just one of those threads where if you didn't realise the harsh realities of boxing then threads like this give you that kick to remind you - it wouldn't surprise me at all many boxers reading this thread - start saying who the f*ck are they to say when I should retire - so which either side of the fence you sit on - this thread should stir a few things up!!!

It is another Legendary DG thread, I agree with most of the guys nominated to retire, if we did not care then we would want to see them continue fighting when past their best and in 20 years time they may not know they were fighters.

Another DG thread that should be pinned throughout 2009.

At the moment Jamie Moore is no.10, Rhodes is no.27 but he has beaten Vuma since who is no.18
