Macc and Cook to fight in Feb maybe...

Post by whicker »

According to Sports Network's site Cook and Macca will be fighting again in Feb, although no mention as yet of who they will be fighting. I would assume that is it s for a WBO "world" belt then opponents do need to be named reasonably soon. I'll look forward to seeing how this develops, anyway. Would be good to see both in a decent match up.

It's gotta be Banks/Macca and Cook/some unbeaten fighter who's name escapes me.

I think one of the ticket sellers (ticketmaster, seetickets etc) was doing tickets for an excel show in Feb, I'm guessing that is that.

Hope it will be a good one, anyway, need some decent boxing to look forward too.

Roman Martinez is the guy it looks like Cook will be fighting, should be getting him on some Dvds that should arrive by mid Jan so will have a good look at him.

Its hard to say by his record really, It does not suggest he is special but Luevano looked nothing special by his record before he fought Cook but he turned out to be too much for Nicky, so its hard to say really.

Will give you a nudge once I have seen the tapes but it will be a couple of weeks at best.

I would have thought it would be Macc Vs Banks, but maybe not if you believe the ever reliable wikipedia :o

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathon_Banks
His had planned to face Enzo Maccarinelli on the 6th December, 2008 on the headline fight at the ExCel Arena, London for both titles. However that fight fell through as Banks refused to attend the fight or even speak to the Maccarinelli camp.

I notice Walter Estrada took Martinez the distance in his last fight, which would suggest Martinez isn't a puncher considering how Estrada, after a good start, fell apart against Scott Harrison and Kevin Mitchell in previous fights.

I spoke to Gary Lockett a few weeks before the Macca v Banks fight and he said he fully expected Banks wouldn't show up for that one. Hope I'm wrong, but I just get the feeling Banks doesn't fancy it.

It's a bit of a wierd one. I thought Banks Vs Alexeev would be the natural fight for the title. They are both ranked 1 & 2 by the WBO and Alexeev fights out of Germany where Banks has fought before (with the Kronk & Klitschkos connection).

Don't know how good Alexeev is compare to Enzo but just seen on the schedule he is fighting for the WBO interim title on the 17th against a lad called Ramirez (ranked no 10)

Look like both guys Enzo and Alexeev are "fringing" their way to the title, the indirect way beloved of all promoters well established and European.

Similarly, I thought Alexeev could save a lot of fuss by just fighting Banks, if he and Banks were #1 and #2 contenders.

I presumed that Alexeev - a great prospect - was going to go for a different belt, but now he's down for the WBO Interim.

Must be that Alexeev isn't quite ready, despite the awesome level of talent and apparent maturity and ring generalship. But by delaying, they will find it harder getting home advantage if Warren ends up controlling the belt.

Word was that Ring champ and IBF champ Adamek was so uninspired by his upcoming mandatory BF Canvas that he wanted to fit in a decent voluntary and that Mac's name was on the shortlist. IF this is true (if, if, if), then why is Mac pissing about with the WBO bauble? When a smaller man, former light heavy, who beat the fast/tricky Cunningham, recognised as champ in the states...maybe wants a fight with him?

So it looks like the PPV originally scheduled in December will take place in Feb, but we still paid in December

Hard to say if it will be PPV, I hope not. Sports Notwork really do need to get their act together soon and put on some exciting cards- the potential talnet and champions is certainly there.

Looks like I was wrong!

Mac Vs Banks is on!!! Should be a cracker.

Taken from the Sun today
A date and venue are yet to be announced but promoter allegedly has confirmed 28-year-old Maccarinelli will definitely face the unbeaten Banks next month.
That's a 100% guarantee of the fight happening right there :box: ;;-)

This will have Warren's new signings on wont it?

I'd imagine he can find DeGale and co some debut opponents in time.

Khan, Cook and Maccrinelli on the same bill.

It will be a PPV, believe me.

I have a feeling, too, that this might be in Wales. But to have these three on the card- fair play- might well be worth checking out.

So who drops out from this one then? I'd so Khan's got to be the favourite on this one.

IMHO etc etc

What about the first fight in Audley Harrison's road to the championship in 2009? That might be on there too.
