Bazooka Limon vs Jorge Rodrigo Barrios

Post by mhagler91490 »

12 and 15 rounds
Jr. Lightweight

They both have similar styles and wanted some feedback on how a fight between them would go.

Tremendous matchup. Both were/are great body punchers, both cut, both had amazing stamina . A really hard fight to call. The tendency is to be nostalgic, remember the Limon of the Chacon and Navarrete fights and pick him. But I think Barrios is a little quicker and it wouldn't have surprised me to see him win in a 12-round fight, possible by late KO. It also wouldn't surprise me to see Limon eventually wear Barrios down late and stop him in the 13th or 14th in a 15-round war.
Also depends on the timing. I am assuming this is prime-on-prime. Limon was basically shot by the time he was 29, after the last Chacon fight. He was KO'd frequently after that. Barrios was a champion at 29. At 29 I don't see him losing to Juarez, like he did in September. He may be on his way down as well

IMO, over 15 rounds, Limon wears down Barrios in a battle of the wide-swinging brawlers :TU:

I'm not sure Limon would have lost to Rocky Juarez.

Limon was a wide swinging making hay head down southpaw.........nothing he did was right or correct. It was painful to watch him.......It would be a fight along the lines of Gatti/Ward. Club fighters with limited skill beating the shit out of each other for others enjoyment. A "who cares" match up in my book.

Limon lost to much worse fighters than Juarez on the way up and then against after the last Chacon fight. Would agree he probably wouldn't have lost to Juarez between 1979 and 1982, in his prime. But Barrios was likely past his prime in the Juarez fight as well (he's 32 and two years removed from holding a title), so the comparison isn't entirely fair to Barrios
