1980 U.S. Amateur Team - Warsaw
Could someone (anyone) provide some information on the U.S. Team that was killed in a plane crash in 1980? I vaguely recall this being a news item when it occured, but I don't know anything about the boxers who so tragically lost their lives. I've read that both Bobby Czyz and Tony Tucker were supposed to be on that flight, but the information I'm seeking concerns the actual fighters. Who were they, and what promise did they hold as potential champions? Were any of them destined be a part of the Olympic team that never got the chance to compete due to the boycott? Were any of them stars who we would be talking about today? My apologies if this should be on the amateur forum (and feel free to move it), but I chose this one because they were so tragically and prematurely consigned to the past. Any information on these guys would be most welcome. Thank you.

I swear, a million people were due on that flight. Lemuel Steeples lost his life in the crash, and he was the best boxer to die. Carlos Palomino's brother, Paul. also tragically lost his life. Tom "Sarge" Johnson was a well-known coach who died.EriqS wrote:Could someone (anyone) provide some information on the U.S. Team that was killed in a plane crash in 1980?
