Trivia quiz...

Post by bennie »

The Devil in Roy Jones posed a seriously good set of questions to our resident troll, McGuigan/Kauffman (who went awol afterwards while he self-harmed).
The questions deserve a thread of their own in my opinion. Absolute pearlers.
Let's have some answers:

1) In his 1981 rematch with Vito Antuofermo, Marvin Hagler drops Antuofermo. In what round does he knock him down?

2) Ken Buchanan beat Carlos Ortiz by TKO round 6. How did the bout end?

3) After his DQ loss to Ricky Hatton, the Sky cameras went back to Stephen Smith's dressing room, who was with him in there?

4) In his 1982 rematch with Fulgencio Obelmejias, Marvin Hagler scores a picturesque knockout. With what punch does Hagler KO Obelmejias?

5) In the Salvador Sanchez - Wilfredo Gomez latino superfight, referee Carlos Padilla takes up an issue with the Sanchez camp while giving the fighters their pre-fight instructions, what is it? Also, what prominent heavyweight is seen in the ring during the Mexican celebrations, and why was he there?

6) When Wayne Elcock was knocked out by Lawrence Murphy, what did one of Elcock's cornermen (I think it was Frank Maloney himself!) do when Elcock slumped between the bottom ropes?

7) When Marvin Hagler knocked out Willie Monroe in 1977, Monroe's head made a violent motion before hitting the canvas because it hit a ring rope. Which ring rope did it bounce off?

8] In the year 2000, in the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao took on Chae Seung-Kon. With what combination of punches did Pacman knock him out?

9) Mike Tyson lost an amateur fight with Craig Payne on points. What was Tyson's reaction to losing?

10) In one of Roy Jones' middleweight fights Michael Buffer muddled up his introduction of Jones. What did he say that was wrong?

Middle one? Going from memory.

Monroe was lucky he didn't suffer a brain injury from the whiplash effect of that heavy knockdown. I still maintain Michael Watson suffered his injuries - not from the Eubank right uppercut - but the way his head bounced off the bottom rope. They ought to remove the bottom rope.

Padilla wanted to know who the chief second was in Sanchez's corner.

Larry Holmes as he was co-commontator.

I thought Shavers was on the undercard but I think that may have been a different Sanchez fight.

I know after one Amateur loss he was found punching a tree with his bare hands, but I think that was after one of the Tillman loses.

1) In his 1981 rematch with Vito Antuofermo, Marvin Hagler drops Antuofermo. In what round does he knock him down? Third I think.

2) Ken Buchanan beat Carlos Ortiz by TKO round 6. How did the bout end? Ortiz quit on his stool.

4) In his 1982 rematch with Fulgencio Obelmejias, Marvin Hagler scores a picturesque knockout. With what punch does Hagler KO Obelmejias?
Right hook.

:D

Yep, six down four to go. I'll just clear up the ones already answered.

1) In round three a Hagler left sends Antuofermo down on his arse for just the third time in his career. A cut Vito is only momentarily stunned and gets back up straight away.

2) Yeah, Ortiz ends it on his stool.

3) Sky goes back to get an interview with Darkie Smith. Stephen Smith is sitting with his girlfriend looking gutted. Darkie then starts talking about Stephen's testicles, which surely just embarrased him more in a humiliating night for his boy.

4) Hagler, in the southpaw stance, launches a right hand that sends Obel down like a ton of bricks. Similar in a way to the punch that kayo'd Hearns.

5) Yep, Padilla keeps demanding to know who the chief second is in the Sanchez corner. Larry Holmes is there commentating with Bob Sheridan, and at the end he is in the ring. He's easily recognisable because he's quite a bit taller than all the Mexicans and Puerto Ricans in the ring. Chaos is the nature of this fight: before, during, and after it. The only one who acts cool in the whole building (including the commentators) during the fight is Sanchez. :)

9) Payne, who looked a little like James 'Quick' Tillis, beats Tyson the same way Tillman did, though Payne's effort is more mechanical. I think Tyson thought he had won at the end, and to be honest there didn't seem to be much in it, but he ends up the loser. A distraught Tyson cups his hands over his face and sheds a tear.

Who were the other two men to floot Vito, Devil?

PS: I think Cyclone Hart was one.

Oh, yes. What the hell was Vito doing in with Hilton! I think Benitez also got chucked in with the Canadian left-hooking lunatic.
On reflection, I think Cyclone Hart stunned Vito (with a huge left hook). I'm pretty sure Minter and Hilton were the other men who floored Vito.

Yup, Hilton gave Benitez a right mauling, stopped him in about nine rounds I think? Not very nice cos Wilfredo was on his last legs. Tragic what happened to him.

I pulled it, kevo. It was starting to go a bit over the top, and we have lots of great Scots posters on here.
No offence I hope.

Any chance you can do the same with the Rob Calloway thread on the current scene?
