I have seen a couple of his fights, vs Hagler and Andries, which Sibbo both lost.
But i recon Sibson was a pretty good fighter in his day. On his best day , hge was a match for anybody. IMO
How do you guys rate him, then, and how would Sibson do Today?

I really liked Tony Sibson, grew up watching him fighting. He was very good and would be a world champion today with all these 'titles' about... he seemed to be quite a emotional guy and could be brilliant or seemingly disinterested... I don't think he was a great trainer and it's a shame that he never done himself justice when he challenged for world titles... he was outclassed by Hagler, not strong enough against Andries and against Frank Tate seemed to lack the desire..... I got the impression that Tony didn't believe in himself enough, especially later on.
His wins over Lucas, Gumbs, Kaylor, Davidson, Minter and Collins all were impressive..... Minter had just recently given Hamsho a tough fight but Tony just steamrolled him....... he gave a simular performance against John Collins a American that was being tipped for big things.... I think Sibbo was put in there as the fall guy but he just destroyed Collins.
I was at the Sibson vs Kaylor fight.... great atmosphere... we used to regularly have big domestic clashes in those days (remember Kaylor vs Christie) especially at Middleweight........ happy days!!!....... 8) 8) 8)

Sibson was world class no doubt although if he fought Hagler ten times Hagler would have beaten him ten times. I think it was Sibson who said about fighting Hagler "I was fighting a man who was a master of his art".

Sibsons biggest weakness as a fighter was his love of food, I'm sure I read an interview were he stated that he found it difficult to walk past his fridge without taking something out to eat.

I remember reading interviews with sibbo in Boxing News and he came across as a good bloke, liked his heavy Rock music, said he'd have liked to have been a musician I think in one.... he was always very honest and unpretentious. I could see him beating Benn but think a peak Eubank would have been a tougher proposition.... I think a peak Eubank would be too durable and bit too slicker all round for Sibbo. Sibbo was the Guvnor. He was a man when he was a young boy, just watch his win over Frankie Lucas, great fight, great atmosphere. First big fight I ever attended.
He demolished Minter and broke his nose. In fact he did a better job on MInter than Hagler did.
I think he was top 10 material and certainly would have been world class today.
Hammered the favoured John Collins in Atlantic City.
I agree he would have ko'd Benn. You state that Eubank would have beaten him. Personally, I doubt it. He would have made Eubank fight three minutes of every round and remember Sibbo could fight at a fast pace for 15 ROUNDS, not half paced for 12, like Eubank.
I think a Sibbo-Eubank fight would have been like the Dwight Davision fight with Sibbo winning a decision.
Tremendous fighter, a real real hard man.

I remember once Sibbo saying that Graham was a 'bloody limbo dancer' or something like that!.... but to be honest Graham would have given Sibbo fits and been too fast and slippery..... shame it never came off as it'd would have been a gread slugger vs boxer contest..... Tony would have had a chance with his punch for sure.
