Hi there i was looking for a bit of advice me and a few guys from work are trying to arrange a charity boxing night and not sure if you need any licenses or any of the legal issue's we might need to get sorted first any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Been part of a team that has organised a number of Army Boxing Charity Dinner nights - each time with regards to the Boxing side of things we have had to do things by the book through the Army Amateur Boxing Association - with regards to the Entertainment side of things each camp has an entertainment licence - and of course on the amateur scene you also have to make sure you have the medics there on stand by and in addition a doctor but make sure the docotor has the relevant qualification.

So yep ...

Amateur Boxing Association will have to authorise it.

And you will have to stage it where a premises already has an entertainment licence!!!

you dont need a licence unless its pro or aba

ifits just two fat blokes going hell for leather then i dont think its any different from any other sport, you can just do it

obviously its more risky than setting up a table tennis night so you could leave yourself open to be sued if someone got hurt

still ways round that though cos in white collar fights you have to sign a disclaimer saying you agree that its the fighters decision to fight and the organiser cannot be held responsible for any injuries that may occur , this even covers death , but in that extreme instance you would still get sued by familly members for death caused by neglecting duties or whatever the wording is.

Sorry to bother you with this again guys we have found a place that is willing to let us have the charity boxing match and they do have an entertainment license. do i need to get a license for anything else.

We are up in the far north of scotland and there are no amatuer clubs or any other boxing clubs up here so not sure who to ask for advice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Just be aware that "charity" fights run quite high risks, especially if the participants lack much boxing experience. I'd suggest you find a referee, for example, who would know when a fight should be stopped.

Will do thanks the event is not going to be on untill August we have a ref who used to referee amatuer fights and we have a paramedic allready agreed to be there on the night. We just want to make sure we cover all bases and dont do anything illegal.

We have 4 bouts lined up all of us are big boxing fans and work together and are doing the charity side of it through work.

As well as your Paramedic see if you can manage to find a Doctor willing to attend also.

Although you don't have the strict medical rules to follow it is always handy to have the Doctor as well as the paramedics just incase 2 incidents should occur at once of the medics be busy attending to one while another happens.

If you have a medic make sure he/she can stitch. I've seen more cuts at charity events than in Pro rings. Poor punching can slip ans cause cuts and the heads tend to whale about a bit too if they have no experience.
