Witter v Devon Alexander, WBC Interim

Post by Autobarn »

Just read here http://www.BS.com/?m=show&id=17787 that Witter has a fight with unbeaten young Yank southpaw Devon Alexander. With Bradley-Holt WBC/WBO unification, the WBC will recognise Witter-Alexander for the Interim belt. Interim champ can then wait out a shot at the champ outright, (also a unified champ).

In losing the WBC, can Witter actually end up picking up WBC and WBO belts?

Don't know when or where. Lots of hard work ahead for Witter, to hold that green belt again. Should be worth a look, though.

Wow this is about as good a set of news as Witter could have hoped for, hopefully the fight can be made soon (before May.)

Good fight - like it - the most notable opponents on this Alexanders record is the wins against Corley and Callist!!!

But yep decent opponent for Witter.

I'm confused. If the belts are unified, then surely there is still a full WBC champion, so how can there be an "intrim" belt?

I thought intrim was sort of a halfway house- When a champion is delayed in defending his belt for whatever reason, two fighters can meet in an "interim" bout. the interim winner either faces the Champion when he is ready, or is made full Champion if the current champ is unable to make defence.

Is this not more like a fight to see who is going to be mandatory challenger for the WBC belt?

I'v an incling that Bradley is supposed to be defending against a Mandatory now as he won the belt, then had a voluntary defence.

Its more money in a unification against Holt than to fight his mandatory. That's why he's going to have exception
to unify two titles.

witter is the most frustrating guy out there for me. One fight he's explosive and looks like a killer. Then another he's a statue, fighting like Audley. If he was on against Bradley he could have knocked him out. If he doesn't perform this time he should just f**k off IMO.

How do you guys think the fight will go? I've only seen one of Alexander's fights and he looked decent but lacking power. It will most likely be a tough fight for Witter, but it's definitely winnable.

Got to take my hat off to John Ingle.
That's good matchmaking.
Junior owes him a bonus.
This is a route back, and more importantly a winnable route back, when it appeared all doors were closed.
Junior's back is right against the wall - but I hope that will bring the best out of him.
You've got to say there's nowhere else to go if he loses this one.
He really needs to put a show on for TV as well.

I can't see ITV1 being interested in him again

Hennessey has a contract with ITV.
It'll be on - not top of the bill.

Witter is done at world level in my opinion - He's kept himself in good shape over the years, so could continue having a successfull career at a lower level, but he never did set the world alight, and I don't see him starting now.

He did look good in has last outing, but I have long suspected Junior has problems mentally - I still can't get over how piss poor he was in the Bradley fight.

I know that mate, but I reckon it will be ITV4 unless it is chief support when Froch fights in April. Even then it might only make ITV4

I think they will probably pop it on as either an ITV4 main event of a Froch, Cheif Support fight. Witter though needs to pull some big amazing eprformances out of the bag. The guy is his own worst nightmare. He was t h i s close to finally getting Hatton before he pi$$ed it all away in the Bradley fight......

This Alexander chap actually looks pretty decent. Only 21 and had a convincing win over Corley in only his 14th fight.

To me that is a worry. He sounds like a young promising boxer, just as Bradley was and Witter looked beyond him and didnt take him seriously enough. Hopefully he dosen't do that this time and puts on an awesome display. If he wins I just hope to God he dosen't start calling out the winner of the Pac Man Hatton fight. He needs to let that one go.

I think the Bradley loss has given Witter a kick up the arse, I can't see him screwing this one up, I think he knows if he loses then it's game over.

Re: the Hatton thing, I've said before on here even if he beat Bradley and looked amazing, Hatton would have still found reason not to fight him and its good to see Witter has dropped the whole Hatton thing now, he'll only ever mention Hatton's name when specifically asked a question about him, so I think he has let it go now.

I think that Witter is probably on the slide, let's not discount that. He has always struggled with technically proficient boxers, and was bamboozled at times by both Kotelnik and Lynes. He is also heading for old age for a lighter weight fighter, and especially one who relies so much on his relfexes.

Going off subject for a second, James, Charlie has given up the pub, hasn't he? What's he doing now?
