OFF TOPIC- COME ON ENGLAND
COME ON ENGLAND!!! I smell a boring game with few chances ending in a draw.
.
got cheated out of it by some drugged up ruskies? Cant possibly replay the match or turn the result as "it opens a can of worms"

having watched the italians, dutch, germans, portugese, etc i think england have got a great chance.
the spanish looked decent though, and the swedes with larson and ibrahimovich (spelling?) up front will cause a few teams problems.
the french had plenty of possession but lets face it they were reduced to flinging high balls in to the box like a ale house team.
the loss in the long run might not be the worst thing.

Agreed. I think the English have looked the best team in the competition so far.headhunter wrote:having watched the italians, dutch, germans, portugese, etc i think england have got a great chance.

Don't know about the Germans, i thought they looked solid for 80 odd minutes tonight. If it comes to the crunch, i'd still pick them to beat us. The Czechs looked pretty good aswell although they'll have to finish above Holland or Germany to go through.headhunter wrote:having watched the italians, dutch, germans, portugese, etc i think england have got a great chance.

Hopefully the Spanish will beat Portugal and get them out of the way, and then capitulate as soon as the knockout stages begin. The Czechs will help take out Germany in the group stage, while in-fighting accounts for Holland (again). 1 goal might be enough to finish off the Italians. The French should get carried away with sunday's win and suffer a couple of shock defeats. All in all, if things go according to plan England could still make the semi-finals, losing a tense, dramatic affair with Latvia.

I can't believe they were calling it a 4-3-3. It was just one striker with five men across midfield. Player for player, i think they're the most talented squad in the tournament, but they have way too many players with chips on both shoulders. Cocu is crap, i couldn't agree more, he's a down-market version of Hamann. Why wasn't Makaay playing? He's a far more complete player than Van Nistelrooy. Advocaat does not have a clue, and he's going to shoulder the blame when they fail to get out of the group.headhunter wrote:i was shocked how shite the dutch looked, and why advocat plays zenden instead of overmars is beyond me.
that cocu is overrated as well.
total football?
YES
Glitter monkey, evrything you said there was 100% spot on. I was trying to explain to a man u fan in work today that nistelroy's place was in doubt with mackay in the squad, needless to say he didnt have a scooby what i was on about.
Van der Vaart is some player!!
for the record I hope England win the whole thing, the laugh on the second post was in relation to the "bore draw" comment, not towards england loosing, I was absolutley gutted on sunday, reckon we've got the character to bounce back though, englands best player didnt perform at all on sunday, he's gonna bounce back during the next month. Dont forget "they dont like it up 'em"

There is no way MaKaay should be picked before Van Nistelrooy. What an absolute joke. I'd pick Van Hooijdonk above Makaay and that's saying something.Wales wrote:Glitter monkey, evrything you said there was 100% spot on. Observe that Advocaat picked the goal scorer (Van Nistelrooy) and brought on Van H (not Maakay)
best player.....
Potentially I believe it to be Gerrard.
As for Advocaats tactical sense, well, sometimes i think he throws some magic beans in the air to decide what formation is best to play.
I didnt say maakay should play ahead of nistelroy i said nistelroys place could be in doubt, which it was.Observe that Advocaat picked the goal scorer (Van Nistelrooy) and brought on Van H (not Maakay)

Why don't they play Van Nistleroy and Maakay? A team as talented as Holland should have enough confidence to go with 2 up front against a weak German side.Matchfixer wrote:There is no way MaKaay should be picked before Van Nistelrooy. Fair enough. It's just that you stated everything you said was 100% spot on or words to that effect in response to glittermonkey who thought Makaay should start before Van Nistelrooy.Wales wrote:Potentially I believe it to be Gerrard.

I thought that implied you thought the same (the 100% agreement part)
And I think England could do with some of those magic beans.

Re: YES
I've got to disagree. Makaay is a natural goal scorer, much the same as Van Nistelrooy in that respect. Where Makaay has the edge, IMO, is the fact that he is more of a team player than Ruud, both in terms of his personality and the way he plays.Matchfixer wrote:There is no way MaKaay should be picked before Van Nistelrooy. When the Dutch start their inevitable arguements you never hear Makaay pipe up and try to dictate the way the team is picked or the way it plays, which is something that Ruud has been doing recently. Makaay doesn't go missing for long periods of the game, tends to make more intelligent (and less selfish) runs than Ruud, and he is also as good as Ruud with his back to goal.
If i was given the Dutch squad to manage, i'd play them both, but Advocaat seems to only want one striker on the pitch unless they're struggling.
