Taylor gunning for Jean Pascal?

Just heard that Jermain Taylor is looking for a fight with Jean Pascal, the man who lost a bruising fight to Froch for the vacant WBC title. To build toward a shot at Froch.

Good to hear that they're not relying on HBO money, as it could be on Showtime late March. BUT,

Kind of surprising that he'd go for a tough enough fight when he could have the straight shot at a world title. JT is the mandatory after all.

There always seems to be a reason not to fight Froch.

IF it happens, and IF Pascal (bigger, fresher, albeit less experienced) beats Taylor, wouldn't mind seeing Froch-Pascal 2.

But then would Pascal target one of the other champs?

Must be frustrating for Froch. Hopefully he can keep focused, be impressive and wait out the big fights!

Taylor is a chump of the highest degree...he gets a chance to fight for the WBC title...but chooses to fight an eliminator for it instead.

He's next in line for a shot at the WBC title...so he chooses to fight man who just lost to the current title holder.

There was far more money available to Jermaine for the Lacy fight because Froch isn't a name. Sad as it is.

As far as I know this is on Showtime. HBO really do have the hump with Jermaine. Or DiBella.

HBO are faffing things up a bit, so at least it's good that they turned to Showtime. But it'd be better if Showtime wanted Froch-Taylor.

Sadly they are. However, there must be Showtime dates available for following months.

If Taylor fought Pascal, that's no doubt delay a challenge to Froch to near the end of the year.

WBC hopefully just put someone ahead of Taylor in the rankings. If he doesn't want his shot, give it to someone else, ala Inkin paving the way to pascal.

At first he declares 'Froch turned down March 28th date' - but then goes on to say that the date wasn't actually finalised !

Showtime have been building Dirrell, WBC #2. Dirrell is expendable, a loss isn't the end of the world as Showtime are also building Ward. Dirrell could have had the WBO title shot, but to simplify things he and his promoter declined it. Dirrell has been very aggressive of recent, vulnerable and exciting.

With the strong list of contenders, Froch has plenty to get on with. Does Taylor really have so many options? The easy TV paydays are a thing of the past, and the rival super middle champs... - Kessler the most mature of the champs likely beats Taylor at his own game; Balzsay and Bute will want home advantage...

Hope Froch gets the fight, really do. It could make his name in America - the number of journalists who say Taylor beat Lacy "impressively" - and you need the American money for the unifications. How many champs chase their mandatories. Usually champs try to put off hard mandatory challengers.

Dirrell's last fight was fantastic to watch. He showed some true class in spurts. He's obviously got rough edges, but he's a very good boxer.

I agree on Dirrell - good athlete, good speed/power. Like the latest Ring mag says, he's either all defence (the Curtis Stephens fight) or all offence.

He's more likely to get back on ShoBox with the all offence style. He does look temperamental - seemed to take a knee v Hanshaw and Oganov when under pressure, but eventually snaps out of it and throws damaging shots.
