A New Drug Doing The Rounds

Post by dapug »

A couple of Fighters who I am pals with have told me about Human Growth Hormone which is being offered for sale in and around Gyms.

It helps with injuries and helps a fighter bulk up.

A lot of x steroid heads and fitness freaks are using it. The tell tale signs are a more pronounced jaw line and bigger limbs.

It is said that this drug under the current drug testing system is undetectable.

Can anyone enlighten me on this and do we think any British Fighters are on it.

They used to call it 'the clear' because it was undetectable for a longtime.

HGH has been around for many years - it was what Dwain Chambers was caught out for I believe.

The altering of bone structure from prolongued use is interesting. Body builder Ronnie Coleman's cranium appears to have changed shape over the years!

Recently in MMA alot of speculation was cast Alistair Overeem's way due to his pronounced change in physical make up..

Terry, what did Sherk get done for?

Spot on about HGH, a lad at my gym uses it and has developed a forehead like a Meekon over the years.

Rumours of Holyfield and RJJ using it in the early 2000s. Unfounded though.

Just checked and it is THG (Tetrahydrogestrinone), not HGH, that was referred to as 'the clear'.

It was THG Dwain Chambers was caught using..

It's what Barry Bonds is suspected of taking as well. There still isn't a proper test for it as far as I'm aware.

There is still no really accurate test for Growth and it isnt new by any means (its been used for at least 25 years, probably a lot more)

Its also not really that effective unless used with some sort of testosterone, such as deca (which there certainly is a test for)

Not that boxing really has proper drugs testing, even if you do get caught, what then?

MMA fighter (part time now really) Tito ortiz is rumoured to have used this stuff. His head is massive these days. Not just because he's banging Jenna Jameson.

It's all to do with Victor Conte's Balco labs.

Dwain got done for the magic blend of undetectable steroids that Balco put together.

Just like sugar shane used to enjoy :D

Ask your fighter pals who bought it and tell us

Anyone who thinks boxing doesn't have a serious drugs problem must be either severely deluded or whacked out of their minds on drugs

MMA wass even worse, but UFC has cleaned things up a lot as you can see when all those PRIDE fighters had to get off the gear when they entered UFC and were half the fighters they were before they were subject to testing

Co-Crop and Nogueira are good examples and wait till you see the incredible shrinking man Mark Coleman on Saturday..

that went OT i know

Take a look at Coleman's and Mauricio Rua's physiques on Saturday compared to when they fought in PRIDE

now how did they get so muscular?

I agree about Coleman, but Shogun has never been particularly muscular. He's even got a bit of a gut. I don't think he's on anything, although you can never tell. Coleman and his training partner Kevin Randleman have done some serious roiding over the years that's a certainty.

I would recommend watching the Mark Kerr documentary, 'The Smashing Machine'. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0320512/. Kerr has been aother training partner of Coleman's over the years and was/is a serious juice head.

They can find it with the right testing..Everybodys body produces a certain amount of it BUT if your taking it then your body shows an abnormal amount of it in your system plus the side effects have already been stated..It's been out for many years now..Tyson was rumored to be on it in the early days..How true I don't know???

Agree that UFC is cleaner than Pride but it is not due to the UFC - its the US commissions which test for drugs. When UFC comes to Europe, there is no testing. Which is why I think (and this is just speculation on my part) Cro Cop fought (and lost) twice over here.

Dont get caught in the trap of thinking that only the muscle marys take steriods; two of MMA's less body beautiful fighters, Josh Barnett and Tim Sylvia, have both been caught on the gear. They both stated that they hoped it would improve the way they looked as well as the way they fought..

Two of the biggest names yet to be mentioned linked with steriods are Ricardo Arona and Alistair Overeem - neither has flunked a test but I would put a sizeable wager on that both use 'supplements'

In terms of boxing the usual suspects include Holyfield, Roy Jones, Shane Mosley, Fernando Vargas, James Toney, Jameel McCline, Andrew Golota - not all have tested positive but rumours abound.

Aye i reckon you are right on that one, there was little point in him fighting twice in the UK, he's hardly the "local draw" here.

UK MMA fighter James Thompson is probably the most obvious user of the gear i've seen

I remember hearing from a journo who had privately talked to some leading MMA fighters who all said that they reckoned UFC wanted them on the gear for cosmetic reasons*, they just didnt want them to get caught....
UFC has a big, big issue with their fighters looking "fat" apparently

As for boxing, i would put my life saving on all the guys mentioned above being users of "illegal" supplements

Lennox Lewis?

20 odd pounds of lean muscle gained in 6 months?

They do test here. Michael Bisping's last opponent in Birmingham got caught when he was tested afterwards and was given a ban

True - Chris Leben is currently serving a 6 month ban (I think that is all he was done for) for tasting positive for steriods after the Bisping fight.

I dunno about the UFC 'wanting' their fighters to be on th gear but you are right about UFC not looking to give contracts to fat blokes, not mater their talent or recent form.

Roy 'Big Country' Nelson was told by Joe Silva (the match maker) to go away and lose his gut. He said Nelson didn't have 'the UFC look'. :o
