You're Withholding A Fighter's Purse...
It's not something most of us would readily do, especially those of us who've been in the ring. However, if there were any bouts where you would feel justified, nay, compelled, even, in taking a man's purse for a perceived lack of effort, which would you name & shame?
Recently I re-visited Tyson-Etienne, which I've always said should've resulted in the latter having his purse withheld. I still feel that way. Seldon would be near the top of my list for that effort against Tyson, too.
Again, this is not something I would take to lightly. Bert Cooper wouldn't have received a cent for his bout with Reggie Gross, had it been my call.

Alot of hard training goes into even the quickest of blow outs.

What about Pac-DLH then? At least Etienne was legitimately down...Goodnight, Irene wrote:Recently I re-visited Tyson-Etienne, which I've always said should've resulted in the latter having his purse withheld. I still feel that way.

Harsh! The guy took a sustained beating, you can't withold a fighter's purse if he takes his lumps (at least).gregor wrote:What about Pac-DLH then? If Akinwande/Lewis doesn't fall under this category I don't know what does. Henry wanted nothing to do with Lennox.

No way, IMO. It has to be a very clear-cut case, in my book. De La Hoya was weak, but took his lumps, as was stated. I won't withhold a fighter's purse merely because they didn't perform at their optimum.gregor wrote:What about Pac-DLH then? DLH wanted to win and was trying to. BUt age, drain and perhaps
over training not to mention a fast, furious ball of fists in Pacman
were too much for DLH.

What about the Cooper case, Robinson? Do you have an opinion on that? Does Cooper's presence for eight rounds guarantee him a purse, or do his actions warrant withholding, as I believe they do?
Re: You're Withholding A Fighter's Purse...
..personally i think a fighter carrying a purse would look silly anyway...
Re: You're Withholding A Fighter's Purse...
What about the judges that make a bad call or who are sitting by
for a 1st round KO ? should they get paid...
Or the round card gals that dont even get to do the rounds ?
Should they get paid ?
If corruption is apparnt, those involved should be fined. But for
fighting a bad fight for whatever reason, then you should be paid
what you were promised.
Often fighters have been short changed regardless of how great
a performance, at elite level and at the club level.
