Coconut wrote:Slapping (not Jordan-style) was something I tried on the bag last week, just because it's always confused the heck out of me how someone tough like Mkrtchyan could be knocked down by seemingly incorrect punches. They actually can carry a lot of power, not as much as a conventional hook, but when they come cumulatively it could easily be too much to handle. I lost in the first round in my third or fourth bout to a guy who just came out throwing, not massively hard, but sheer volume, and that's what Calzaghe does I reckon. There's plenty of shoulder in the shot, and the cumulative effect is actually quite damaging.

JOE CALZAGHE IS THE BIGGEST SLAPPER
Agreed.

In the historic sense, Ali is by far the biggest slapper i have seen.

carl froch"s left hook is a bit of a slap, like he throws it as a distraction for the right hand that usually follows rather than a hurtful single shot

Peter Oboh slaps. He also clubs, elbows, loafs, spins round and makes people frustrated in about three minutes flat!
