Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
Khan's chin and defense is just too big and fast and strong and HUGE AT THE WEIGHT and just look at his speed!!!
Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
Very, very wise. Not just fight night...bell for the first round.doctorboxing wrote:
However this is SN so I will wait until fight night before making my judgement
But FW pulls this off, fair play to him for sure.
I know he's blown up and old....but come on, this is Barrera!
Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
Is Macklin v Elcott on the bill? Or is that in Brum? Bit odd if it is.
Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
If this is true then Freddie Roach has probably just figured lets put the lad in at the deep and and see if he can fight. If Khan is going to get KO'd it might as well be to a great.
The cynic in me wonders whether a possible 'lose two fights' clause in Khan's contract means an end to all the cash Frank has to pay Amir. He must be losing a lot of money on these ridiculous PPVs.
Credit where its due though (if true)

Me too mate. That's why I can't understand the logic of FW allowing one of his fighters to go on ITV in a big domestic fight the same night as his own card.
Just. Plain. Odd.![[icon_e_confused.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)

Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
the thing is, if it's SN, it won't even be an interesting opponent will it?
multiple world champ is a flexible term, and it will be news regardless of whom the "multiple world champ" will be.
the selling point will surley be the titles the said fighter has held, not the name value of the fighter himself.

I'll deffo go to see this one - definetly worth the price of a ticket. Barrera isn't shot, he's old no doubt, and not what he was a few years ago, but this is a seriously difficult fight for Khan. Barrera should definetely start a pretty wide favourite.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Very, very wise. Not just fight night...bell for the first round.doctorboxing wrote:

Stunning.
But this is SN so expect MAB to get 'injured' the week before.
Any odds it ends up Khan vs Limond for the commonwealth title?

Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
fornicate me backwards.
Glaze my nipples and call me Rita.
MAB beats Khan.
Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
Yep the Beeb have picked up on it now as well
Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
I think fw may be making a huge mistake in that its a risky fight. Does anyone think that sky will be so delighted with this fight ?
Can you imagine all the "revenge " stuff they will be going on about? it will also be another opportunity for another fat ex champ to mouth off again and probably shite on about his comeback

It wont ever happen. But if it did - Barrera kayos Khan inside 2 rounds.
Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
Will Hatton lead his buddy MAB into the ring? Fwanks face
Will Naz be there?
Could be some interesting sub plots

I'm going to do a poll about this, just out of curiosity. What percentage chance do you think this fight has of coming off? Right now I'd say 40%.

Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
WOW, shocker, but if Khan is insistant on PPVs Barrera will help sell this 1 for them. I'm a huge Barrera fan but I'm betting on Khan here. Barrera is simply too small and weak in contrast to Khan. Barrera was small and weak at 130, he only went up there to fight Morales a 3rd time, at 135 against a huge LW at 35 its going to be too much. Then you have to remember Barrera has struggled with the faster fighters hes faced like Pacman and Junior Jones. At 35 and a natural 122lber Barrera will struggle with the pressure, size, new weight class. On the other hand I can see Barrera's defence and countering handling Khan's predictability
Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
Does anyone know who will start out favorite? Any odds yet? Id say you might want to get there early as i think the odds on mab will shorten quickly
Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
i wonder if Ricky will be in MAB's corner?

Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
Forgive me but I just checked Fwanks website. It says 'Sky Sports' will televise the card. ie not PPV or could this be a typo?

Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
Khan carries significant advantages, but has massive discrepancies in experience and technique and that is a big leveller - make Barrera favourite, but not massively.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:WOW, shocker, but if Khan is insistant on PPVs Barrera will help sell this 1 for them. Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
Lightweight Amir Khan takes a serious gamble when he faces Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in London on March 14.
Young Khan was obliterated two fight ago by Colombian puncher Breidis Prescott in Manchester. The 22-year-old linked up with celebrated American trainer Freddie Roach afterwards in Los Angeles, where he regularly impresses in the gym, and returned to the ring in London in December with a second-round dismissal of outgunned Irish brawler Oisin Fagan to take his record to 19-1 (15). Fagan was down three times.
None of this will impress Barrera, a veteran of 25 world title fights (21 wins) and 71 career outings to date (64 wins). While it is true the 35-year-old Barrera has seen better, more active and slimmer days, he comes off a stoppage win in November in China and had been linked to a world title shot at lightweight king Nate Campbell before this opportunity arose. Only pound-for-pound champ Manny Pacquiao and classy fellow Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez have beaten Barrera in the last nine years (Pacquiao twice). He last fought here in 1999 when he blasted Cheshire's Paul Lloyd in one stunning round at London's Royal Albert Hall. He also dished out a famously one-sided thumping to Sheffield's Naseem Hamed in the States in 2001. Naz was never the same.
It was thought Khan would be brought back slowly after the disastrous 54-second defeat at the hands of Prescott last September but this wholly disproves such a notion. The Bolton man is going for gold again (he won lightweight silver in the 2004 Olympics) in a make-or-break attempt to gatecrash the world lightweight scene and to put the Prescott disaster firmly behind him.

Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
The biggest factor in this fight is how well Khan can penetrate a world class defense.
Re: Khan's next opponent (Banjo might not want to read)
No win fight for Khan.
If he loses everyone says 'I told you so......he's am an overhyped chinless loser'
If he wins everyone says Barrerra is shot, too old and fighting way above his natural weight.
Can't see the fight happening tbh, but maybe FWank should get a little bit of credit if this comes off??? Maybe not![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
