What do we make of Ruslan Chagaev's return?
A pointless routine fight against Carl Davis Drummond, a fella with a padded record who no doubt will be leaving Germany without his undefeated record, but where does he fit in? Wins over Nikolay Valuev, John Ruiz, Matt Skelton and Michael Sprott -- hard nut, good power & skills, southpaw, fit, well matched, appears to have it all.
With his flimsy hold on some version of the multiple WBA belts, his recurring illnesses and injuries and of course never leaving Germany he seems like a totally wasted talent whos not getting the chance to make his impact on the division.
Chagaev is just the kind of guy i could see dispatching Wladimir and being a nightmare opponent for David Haye, what's the forum consensus though as i am smoking crack cocaine.
DARK HORSE OF HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION RETURNS
Re: DARK HORSE OF HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION RETURNS
Chagaev struggled with a hopeless bum like Skelton and seemingly did just enough.
Ruiz and Valuev are good wins.
That said and i hate repeating it again, and again, and again, but what a Pinklon Thomas, Razor Ruddock or Michael Dokes would have done to this bum

I agree that the likes of Dokes, Page, Tubbs etc would box circles around Chagaev in their day, but unfortunately this is the current heavyweight division we're talking about.
I think your liberal use of the word 'bum' ismisplaced and disrespectful. Skelton is the European heavyweight champ, hardly a bum matey.

I rate Chagev..He's so small in todays current climate of heavyweights and he still keeps winning..I wouldn't like to see David Haye o fight him as I think he'd prove too durable..
I think Haye should Wladimir or maybe Arreola..

Re: DARK HORSE OF HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION RETURNS
chagaev is no dark horse, he's the clear #3 in the division for me, maybe even #2. They need to get him in with the haye/wlad winner . or vitali. lets sort this division out ffs!

Re: DARK HORSE OF HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION RETURNS
Agreed. I've noticed that Chagaev doesn't get much love in the 'Current Scene' section. He's very talented but does seem to have a big problem with injuries. I hope his touted rematch with Valuev comes to fruition and he can exploit Holyfield's tactics to maximum potential.Bomber 1 wrote:I rate Chagev..He's so small in todays current climate of heavyweights and he still keeps winning..I wouldn't like to see David Haye o fight him as I think he'd prove too durable..![]()

Re: DARK HORSE OF HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION RETURNS
Chagiev is strong with a granite chin, but for me only looked really good once against Valuev. He was very one paced and ordinary against Skelton, where I thought he should have made more of a statement. I expect another dull safety first points win over Drummond.
