Dont do it Marco!

Post by thepocketrocket »

I have never been anti-SN, or should I say i'm not institutionally anti -SN...they may do some wrong things from a fans perspective but so does every firm...I speak with no agenda

OK, thats the discaimer...if, as it seems MAB gets announced today as Amirs next foe then what does everyboday think???

Heres my take...I have no wish for my favourite foreign fighter to be used as a stepping stone for young prospects...the man is a legend, he deserves better. Even if he wins, so what? Breidis Prescott beat Amir and he may never win a world title IMO.

Though Marco is probably not shot, he is well past his best...his best may be good enough to beat Amir but please just retire, dont go on too long, you have earned you're retirement

Barrera is down with Azteca TV to box on 31/1 already.

I really hope it is Marco. I might go just to say I saw him live.

Warren claimed it was a multiple world champion, it's gonna be someone washed up and miles past their past so i still can't see past Medina for this one.

Can anyone think of multiple world champs that reigned in the '90s between, say, flyweight and super featherweight divisions?

Also, does multiple world champ mean someone who has won & lost & won and lost titles at one weight; OR a guy who's held titles at different weights? In what context is "multiple world champ" being used, and does that count WBU, IBO etc.

OP- why would you begrudge Barrera an easy stay-busy fight like this? Give him a break, he's fought more legends than anyone in the game.

Banging out Amir in a couple of rounds will be a nice and lucrative tune up for this great fighter before he tackles Nate Campbell later in the year in a serious boxing match.

Khan v MAB is definitely one i'd rather not see, but I tell you what, if they bring Barrera to the uk, it will do big business and cause a fair old stir. I have feeling SN are going to be grabbing a lot of headlines in 2009.

They've got practically all the Olympians, Mitchell is about to arrive on the big scene I think, and if Khan v MAB happens it all points towards a lot of press coverage.

They need it after a terrible 2008.

Khan fights with fast flurries, but he does have a tendency to be open for a counter when he backs off from a flurry, and I'm sure Barrera's boxing brain will exploit this a lot.

Despite Khan being chinny, I think Barrera will be smart and box much like he did against Naz. He will counter a lot and I think a lot of Khan's flurries will hit his gloves or miss altogether as he has a pretty good defence.

If MAB managed to land precise often enough, he could probably floor Khan but I see it going into the second half of the fight. Khan hasn't finished a competitive 12 rounds yet, and MAB might give him it.

Khan might be strong and fast enough to back Barrera onto the ropes a few times, but I don't see him being able to keep him there.

I'm astonished that people think Khan will win.

Barrera even at this late stage of his career is light years ahead of anyone Khan has ever fought, he has an abundance of experience and has only ever lost to fighters who have held more than one world title in their careers.

IF Khan does win then fair play to him but I seriously doubt he will.

If Barrera's got ANYTHING left, Khan's getting schooled and probably knocked out. He's not technically good enough to live with someone like Barrera. Handspeed and youth is all Khan's got in this fight. Could be enough - all depends on how much MAB has left.

i honestly believe khan would k.o him . i know that sounds crazy .. khan knocking out barrerra ... sounds more crazy each time i say it but i do think it will happen .. theres no way khan would take the fight if he didnt think he would win , warren despite his bad points is a good business man , khan - prescott was one of those freaks in life a big bang that was always a possiblilty that has given him a wake up call that he can be beaten but bear in mind also fighters can be fine one fight and be old the next , i feel almost sad to say it but this will be the making of khans worldwide profile and will probably get him an eliminator fight before fighting and beating campbell by the end of the year , and whats the bet his 1st defense would be against prescott .

Sorry, but the Prescott knockout was no freak happening. Khan is very chinny and very poor defensively. He was in trouble against Limond and Gomez before getting sparked by Prescott and has never looked truly comfortable when under fire. Are you telling me that even a shot Barrerra can't land the punches that Limond and Gomez did? I'm not buying that.

Barrera is definitely removed from his his prime years, but he's still the most clever and technically astute fighter Khan will have ever been near in his life. Barrera sparks Khan out if he lands ANYTHING flush. I'd also give MAB a great chance of hurting Khan to the body. If Khan thinks Gomez digs hard to the ribs, wait until he feels a few MAB left-hooks.

I think you have to give both guys credit for taking this fight. Barrera is past his best now, but its not much more than a year since he went 12 with Manny. Khan might be getting a jaded Barrera, but its still Barrera. For Barrera, he's taking a fight against a fairly dangerous prospect who isn't even an unbeaten fighter anymore, if hes looking at it as a stay busy fight then its definatley a tough one for someone at this point in his career. I think it'll be a fast track to a title fight for the winner, if they want it, so its a good fight for both. Barrera would be my pick to win based on his superior boxing skills/ intelligance and Khans lack of chin is definatley something Barrera can exploit.

That's a very brave move from Warren and Khan if it is MAB up next..... I'd be surprised.

Cracking fight if it comes off though

With potential champions waiting to become stars in the wings, its time for frank to see if Khan is worth all the money he pays him. Its make or break for Khan.
