Enzo Macc vs TBA

Post by Abbo »

Just wanted to break this out from the Khan/MAB frenzy. However, it might be relevant..

Banks is confirmed to fight Adamek in Feb, and not Enzo. Makes me wonder if he'd EVER signed a contract to fight Enzo..

So where on earth does Enzo go from here?? BJ Flores has a bout listed for Jan 23rd against TBA, but otherwise who??

If, IF the Khan/MAB fight happens then surely Enzo will be fighting a bum for chump change right?

Is he "confirmed" to fight Adamek?

I doubt it, people just believe stuff from the US. Warren says he has a contract, that would have a postponement clause which would prevent him pulling out to fight anyone else within either 3 or 6 months. So, if he wants out, he will have to buy his way out.

We'll see what difficulties Banks encounters.

If he is in violation of contract etc, who knows we might see him fight Enzo; and Adamek probably would fight Braithwaite. Braithwaite is down to fight Flores in the IBF elim.

I'm still hoping for Adamek-Banks as it looks good.

I suppose recent experiences of Froch and Macca have shown us the difficulties and frustrations of being a British world champ/world class Brit. Not everyone wants to fight you if you're good and well out of the way / not known in America.

If there is/was a contract then didn't Warren postpone the fight first?

It does look like another farce doesn't it?

Macca can be a lovely boxer, nice tight style for a tall fighter, good long range boxing, above average stamina, powerful.

Can't help but think he's career's a bit of a waste. I'm sure he'll have been on nice money for WBO and WBU belts, but apart from Braithwaite, Hobson 1, Bruce Scott and Haye (for all the wrong reasons, this one) it hasn't been so entertaining.

Exactly but you gotta feel for Macca -I've lost count of the times he's had to face a TBA opponent.

I've grown to really like Maccarinelli. I think he's a very decent guy and a very decent boxer. It's a shame he's been messed about since the Haye fight. Herbie Hide would be a good fight for him.

I've felt the completely opposite to that. I used to like him, but his lack of class when he got beat was disgraceful - he kept talking about mistakes in the fight, when in truth, his only mistake was thinking that he had the ability to handle David Haye.

He's never going to admit that David Haye is better than him. I'm fine with that; most boxers do the same thing to keep their confidence (whether outward or inward).

I'm the same. I want to like him - on the face of it he seems a nice, genuine, down-to-earth kind of guy - but then you hear some of the drivel that's exited his mouth post-Haye and it's instantly turned me off.

It's as if he can get away with the bitter tone and poor sportsmanship just cos' it's Big Enzo, the honourable cheeky chappy from the Welsh valleys. If it was Herbie Hide coming out with the excuses Enzo has, Herbie would be forced to run to the hills.

I do feel sorry for him at the moment, though. His career has died on its arse since the Haye thrashing. He deserves better than this.

Perhaps other boxers do that, but it's not what I like. I like when a fighter gets beat fair and square and comes out and says he lost to the better man. Haye himself did it with Thompson and there's been a few other examples too.

I agree with your point and completely understand. For some reason I'm happy to overlook that with the Big Macc.

Mac could have done with a W over an "American banger" - Banks, whether he's any good or not. What he really needs, surely, is Adamek. Adamek is not a cruiser-cum-heavy like Haye. He's a cruiser via light heavy, the smaller man.

It's an excellent fight for Mac, is Adamek. Adamek is respected, exciting, I have a feeling we're going to be seeing more "good value" fights this year on TV involving fighters like Margarito, Adamek, etc.

I think much more highly of Adamek than Macca, but think Macca can beat him.

You keep mentioning Adamek being a former Light Heavyweight, but he weighs over 200 lbs in the ring and is in great shape. He's not a small Cruiser. Maccarinelli used to be a small cruiser, weight-wise.

Adamek is still a former light heavy who had most of his fights at 175 pounds. Yes he has made the move up very nicely, stopping numerous guys, stopping Bell, and beating Cunningham. I don't see him as a BIG cruiserweight, more so a decent sized cruiser. He was a big light heavy.

That he had Bell down in rd 1, and dropped Cunningham 3X shows he can bang as a cruiser. Still don't think he can bang like Mac.

Bell did look a fair bit bigger and stronger than Adamek; and I have ALWAYS considered Cunningham a muscled up light heavy. Cunningham being speedy, not strong and powerful. A light hitting cruiser - Cunningham - had Adamek hurt, but only power punching light heavies hurt Adamek.

Hopefulyl the fight happens one day and we'll see how they measure up size/strengthwise. If Adamek connects he can put Mac away; but he may find reaching a 6'4 guy a bit daunting & I don't know how he'd react to Mac's power.

Another comparison would be the class comparison. Adamek's 24 rds with Paul Briggs, 12 with Cunningham, 8 with Bell certainly drawves what Mac has encountered class-wise.

Maccarinelli is only about an inch taller than Cunningham. I would love to see Macca vs Adamek.

Anyway, Alexeev, the mighty Alexeev has just been stopped for the Interim WBO title.

Enzo doesn't need Banks anymore. Surely Enzo v this Ramirez guy for the title outright.

he South American seems a danger man but Enzo should be experienced and fine tuned enough for this job.

Looks like Enzo has a nice route back to the title.

What a complete and utter load of bollocks. Banks was made with Enzo via a purse offer. He has signed for the fight. Where do you get your bullshit info from? He's not confirmed to fight Adamek either? Again where did you hear this was confirmed, it wasn't from Banks or his people that's for sure? Has Enzo ever earned chump change? If he had, how would you know? Why don't you stick to what you know instead of making up what you clearly don't?- FOOL!

Word is that newly crowned IBF cruiserweight champion Tomas Adamek (36-1, 24 KOs) of Poland will make the first defense of his title against world ranked challenger Jonathan Banks (20-0, 14 KOs). The bout would take place February 27th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey and be aired live on a special edition of SHOWTIME’s acclaimed ShoBox series. Adamek won the title at the same venue on December 11th, dethroning champion Steve Cunningham in front of a large Polish crowd. Banks was to fight Enzo Maccarinelli for the vacant WBO belt in December, but had to pull out with an ankle injury.

Mmmmmmm!
