Murray-Thaxton?
Murray-Thaxton?
Anyone think this fight should get made? Potentially a cracking fight, between the British and the European champs at lightweight. What are the chances of it getting made, while both fighters are holding their titles? Thaxton said it'll happen on ITV4 last night, Murray wants it.
I suppose it's a question of whether Thaxton can find a bigger opportunity above European level. If he can get some kind of world ranked contender, then naturally he'll move on (I reckon) and up. Really Murray-Thaxton is the type of fight that suits the younger man, on the way up.
Both with the same promoter. If you were Hennessy, would you want to keep them apart and have one of them go for Khan? Two champs obviously are better than one.
Domestically things have been very, very drab. I have stopped watching Friday Fight Night on Sky and have been a bit down on domestic (nay, Commonwealth) boxing till this weekend. Things livened up a lot with Murray-McAllister. Could we have Thaxton-Murray in 2009?

Re: Murray-Thaxton?
I think Alex Arthur could "steal" a Thaxton fight. If he wants it. (and if the promoters can come to terms)
Now AA is moving up from super feather, he may want another European title, who knows.
AA - "former world champ" etc - would be a big scalp for a guy like Thaxton, who seems to have world class aspirations.
Arthur was going to be sacrificed to Khan, but Khan got Barrera, no?

Re: Murray-Thaxton?
Hennesy won't give Thaxton up and I'd be amazed if AAA boxed on a rival show..
Re: Murray-Thaxton?
I like Thaxton, but you wonder how much He has left, not sure.
Re: Murray-Thaxton?
I think i have missed something here....
What are Khan's actual reasons for not wanting to fight either Murray or Thaxton ?
Why does he not believe in fighting for the British or European title ?

Re: Murray-Thaxton?
If Khan's fighting Barrera, isn't it safe to say he doesn't want a British title - a title he's overlooked already.
Anyway, this isn't another Khan thread...

Re: Murray-Thaxton?
Thaxton-Murray is a brilliant domestic fight. I like Murray to be a little to young for Thaxton but if Thaxton can detonate a bomb like he did against Melero then he can certainly win.
I wonder if Thaxton/Murray maybe kind of like Witter & Hatton in terms of not happening.
AAA will fight on 14 March show at his new weight.

Re: Murray-Thaxton?
I'd like to see Arthur in there as he is a decent name and he may have something more to offer at lightweight. Enouhg of pretending to be a world champ - get in there for the best domestic battles.
Can't see what there is for Arthur aside from probably losing to Khan. That or one of the titles, British or Euro.
Anyway, Thaxton has said publically that he'll fight Murray. Interestingly, Thaxton's mandatory Romanov, will probably not take the title shot. Murray has stopped Meager and McAllister, and hopefully this has made him the top contender. MCAllister was EBU #7. I believe Meager was top 5 when Murray beat him. So if Thaxton remains Euro champ, it could well happen IMO.
What a fight Thaxton-Murray would be. Thaxton is one of the true hard men of UK boxing, and Murray is makig great progress.

I can't see any situation arising where Wazza and Meaty Mick would work together.
Both Promotional and TV issues.

Re: Murray-Thaxton?
Yet we do see Wazza fighters on other ppl's bills. Dean Francis v Tony Oakey, and forthcoming Macklin v Elcock.
Arthur seemed like he wanted to pick on Michael Gomez with Gomez's best days clearly behind him. But that didn't happen. Arthur-Murray could be the "next" Gomez-Arthur type of fight.
