You also can't ignore their complete lack of ethics - faking interviews with stars (been sued for that several times), waging hate campaigns against celebrities (which Elton John sued them for) and just making shit up (Lockerbie and Hillsborough).

My issue isnt really with the quality of the writing which is very very high - even with the slant toward the slower readers. My issue is that that same simplicity is applied to the actual reporting and they frequently pervert the truth of the stories to suit Rupert Murdoch and his editor's agenda.

To be honest mate when it comes to sports that I like(boxing, motorsport, football) I usually buy magazines for that particular sport where more often than not you get an expert opinion on events rather than some fella going off on a rant in some tabloid. I'm yet to read a decent article on boxing in a mainstream paper.

Possibly, it's very easy to manipulate people through the media, all they need to say is "Poles are coming and taking jobs" or words to that effect and it creates a bandwagon and then everyone who is struggling to find a job is going "can't get a job 'cause of them effin' Poles" and it spreads very easily. What the tabloids fail to print is that most of the foreign workers are actually going back to their home countries now that our economy has gone tits up but we still have the "blame the Poles" brigade.

Precisely, people are extremely easily persuaded, history shows this to be true. It's easy to start a hate campaign against a particular class or race of people - it is worrying just how easily people are influenced.

We buy The Mail on Satuday for the TV programming supplement. The best you can get weve found, and the paper comes in handy for cleaning shoes on.

The tabloids are an easy read, full of sensational stories that are badly researched, with things made up or grossly exaggerated. If you are happy with that then buy them, but if you want truth and facts you should get a proper newspaper. The fact is council housing estates love a bit of gossip and the tabloids exist, and flourish, because of peoples thirst for juicy gossip. Thats not news, its there purely to sell the so called newspaper. TV and radio stations stick to newsworthy events and are careful to get their facts right. They are usually the first with breaking news as well. They also make it clear when they dont have enough details, that it is an unconfirmed report from a reliable source. Whether its right or wrong we are judged by what we read. By all accounts the Sun doesnt do all that well in Liverpool, and isnt that popular with the middle classes either. Sun readers are seen to be below average as far as intelligence goes and thats just the way it is. It may be wrong as I say to judge others but we all do it.
