It's a dangerous fight but I pick Murray to grind him down in what could be a classic. Murray won't walk straight in like Meager did.Tommy Gunn13 wrote:terminator wrote:Thaxton would batter Murray
I dont know if Thaxton would batter Murray, but Murray gets caught by a lot of shots&Thaxton packs the power![]()
Really enjoyed tonights fight tho
Hatton is a sucker for the right hook, but was just too big for Thaxton and too fast. Hopefully Murray isn't open to the right hook as Thaxton is a powerful lightweight and has laid out good fighters with that right hook.
Re: Tyson Fury vs Marcel Zeller / John Murray vs Lee McAllister
Yeah, these are the good fights to move fighters onward. I was very pleased with Murray's performance - he had less trouble than I anticipated. IMO pressure fighters are often made to look slow, but they sort of come on line a virus and do their job when they break the boxers down. Figured that if Murray was going to slip up, it would have been tonight due to the speed and style. Also, he would've beaten Fewkes.black panther wrote:I agree Murray got better as the fight went on - I suppose I just felt he could have made the fight easier by jabbing more on his way in and letting the shots go in combinations as opposed to trying to time McAllister's jabs with single right hands. As you say good learning fight for him - I'd like to see Murray in with Lawton next as Lawton likes to box from the outside as well so we can see if Murray has learned from this fight and can be more consistent with his body attack.Autobarn wrote:But - Murray won the fight. He takes the role of aggressor, and he did in fact step in with some hard jabs. Despite the roles, McAllister showed he could grit it out, and Murray showed competence as a boxer. Pressure fighters have to take shots as they come in, but I was impressed how Murray blocked a lot of shots, and timed McAllister, and in the end the pressure worked.
McAllister was quite a lot faster, so you have to slow down the fast fighter,to the body etc, and this is what ended up happening.
Regardless of what anyone thinks - great learning fight, that. For both fighters.
Hope Murray can be kept busy. And like I say, hopefully McAllister is back on TV soon.
Lawton a good fight, for sure. He has been underrated, by myself and others. Murray can beat any Brit in a tear up, so these pressure vs boxer fights will be very useful. Castle would be decent as well, if Murray has to wait for Thaxton/EBU title. I know Murray loves his belt and that could enable him to have it for keeps.
Murray and Khan both have something the other doesn't like. Khan hates the body shots from a physically strong guy who comes on. Murray risks getting outsped. Don't think it ever happens. Murray probably goes the traditional Hennessy route (domestic, Euro and hoepfully world) and Khan goes the Interim, Intercon, WBwhatsit, etc.
McAllister reminds me a bit of Ricky Burns, but more mobile and flashy. He could be a future British champ.
Re: Tyson Fury vs Marcel Zeller / John Murray vs Lee McAllister
Murray's still getting hit in the face plenty. But I'm certain that's due to the fact that McAllister's a slick boxer - I am kinda glad that Murray didn't fight an on-form Fewkes (I think Fireball could've won going off his display tonight). But Murray did get the job done, and kudos to the lad - I really like him.

Yes. His dad was a pro boxer/bare knuckle fighter called 'Gypsy' John Fury.sg1985 wrote:is tyson fury his real name?

I guess he was an admirer of the Brooklyn native..
With a name like that and coming from gypsy stock, young Tyson was always going to have to give boxing ago..

He won the English ABAs in his first senior season and was pushing for an opportunity to qualify for Beijing but the ABA sensibly went with the more experienced Price (who ended up getting a bronze).sg1985 wrote:i just watched his first fight on youtube they mentioned him fighting as a super heavyweight in the amateurs do you know anything about thisTerribleTerry wrote:Yes. Pissed off, Fury attempted to qualify via Ireland but couldnt prove his Irish acestory. For a time he was going to stay in the vest until 2012 (when he would have still only been 22ish) but he decided to go pro with Hennessey instead.

Seems a bit harsh on john here, just back from the fight and seriosusly if anyone is wrong for john its macallister yet he still wore him down and stopped him. For me thAT was a very impressive performence against a guy who isnt easy to beat. Well done. Thaxton fight will be a cracker but im picking murray to be a bit too young and hungry. Fierce fighter.

I think you will find Murray had a game plan and executed it perfectly, McAllister also had a game plan but couldn't sustain it for 12 rounds.emma wrote:what was he thinking when he just stood there while murray punched him in the face?jimglen wrote:What a _ucken diddy, all McAllister had to do was BOX and he throws away a possible decision.

Personally I think Murray would struggle to get past euro level, he's got guts and he can fight but he gets hit way too much and as for people saying it's a learning fight well he's been a pro for over 5 years now surely he should be further ahead in his development than he is.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Marcel Zeller / John Murray vs Lee McAllister
McAllister probably has a decent enough career ahead of him too, he probably could do with some more experience of longer fights- his gameplan was good, but watching the footage again it was clear he was getting very tired and worn down before the stoppage.
Re: Tyson Fury vs Marcel Zeller / John Murray vs Lee McAllister
McAllister was great in the interview saying Murray would knock Khan spark out.
You knew Murray would get through in the end and start slowing McAllister down, was only a matter of time.
Did you see the fight afterwards where that Mo Khaled got robbed by the ref?

Re: Tyson Fury vs Marcel Zeller / John Murray vs Lee McAllister
Am impressed by a lot of things Murray does. Can keep a tight defense (I don't think he was too concerned by McAllisters power), throws good shots to head and body and the way he stayed calm and focused was excellent.
I really want to see him do well but his footwork is terrible at times. There are fighters who will be able to box off the backfoot and keep moving for 12 rounds and Murray is hardly closing the ring at pace is he? One of the things attributes that has got Hatton to worldclass with a similar style to Murray is his fast footwork. Without it I think Murray will fall short at a higher level

Jayc and others.
I don't think the negativity is particularly harsh, remember Murray has been hyped as a prospect who is not only domestic class but will go on to win honours at world level.
You don't lose rounds to McAllister, no matter how awkard he is, if you are "world class" prospect.
Khan is so much stronger, quicker, hit harder than McAlister.... yes, I am not saying Khan is a concussive 1 punch KO artist - but McAlister is a complete non puncher.
I think Limond beats Murray and I think Khan knocks him out, he is far to slow.
He's good domestic level fighter, but thats it.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Marcel Zeller / John Murray vs Lee McAllister
i was quite impressed with the fury lad. wants to get that uppercut with a bit more power and he'll have a real matchwinner.
well fought marcel zeller. one of those nearly took his nose off!! brave and tough man.
murray takes too many punches to compete with khan. i enjoyed the fight but lee was hitting him at will, albeit with pit-pat punches. i liked johns aggression but he gets hit too easily.

I agree with this, i think murry lost to youseff al hamidi, limond doesnt bleed as easily as mcallister. Murray will never be a "proper world titlist" he might fight at european level but his style and lack of a plan B will always limit himstujones wrote:Jayc and others.

I've watched Murray for a couple of years now and he doesn't seem to progress beyond a fairly limited one dimensional boxer. Him against Khan would be 50/50, i wouldn't be surprised at an early win by either man, but neither guy would survive in world class.
I think Yuri Romanov would bash up Murray and Khan, as he already did Thaxton with total ease.

Murray's beaten the slugger (Meager) in an absolute clinic, he's stopped the boxer/mover with a superb body shot. Soon hopefully he takes on a puncher, Thaxton. Thaxton-Murray, if it happens, would be awesome and I'd hope it to be on ITV1. Would be a perfect fight to get ppl into boxing. Classic division, traditional belt and a fight that can deliver fireworks.

Is that in the BBBofC rulebook or something?
McAllister looks like a very good talent.
Re: Tyson Fury vs Marcel Zeller / John Murray vs Lee McAllister
Lightweight devision is somewhat different to winning the WBC Super Middleweight title against a fighter probably not in the top 10 independently.
And Magee is a better boxer than McAllister, Magee should have been EBU champion.
