Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
I've heard Terry Dunstan is having trouble getting matched for the second fight of his comeback. He's 40 and only boxed four rounds in 10 years, so on paper doesn't look like the sort of opponent that would make journeymen and the like ask for more than their usual fee, but apparently nobody fancies it without a pay rise. For a contender or prospect, I can understand it could be seen as a no-win situation ("only" beating a 40-year-old), but why would, for example, someone like Mathew Ellis (who apparently accepted then did an about-face) turn it down?
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
What weight is Dunstan competing at.... the cruiserweight devision doesn't have much depth domestically... think he could get a shot at the title soon, if he wants it.

Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
Yeah, cruiserweight. I guess he'd want a shot, but no point trying for it if he didn't think he'd win, and I think four rounds against Paul Bonson is scant preparation for a title fight, even in a weak division. He needs rounds, especially after 10 years out, but it's looking hard to match him.stujones wrote:What weight is Dunstan competing at.... the cruiserweight devision doesn't have much depth domestically... think he could get a shot at the title soon, if he wants it.
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
what about neil simpson or micky steeds im sure they would fight him ????
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
Can he get a promoter? Can't see how TV will be interested with his history?
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
The reason he is hard to match is because he will be fighting on non televised, small hall dinner show sort of venues.
These shows don't generate much cash and fighters will want more money to fight someone of Dunstans quality.
If he had some backing it would be easy to match him on a bigger show, it's all about money!!

But who would back him? Not exactly a good example, what he did was terrible.

And what was it that you think he did hon ?gobbles wrote:Coco wrote:

"Former British cruiserweight boxing champion Terry Dunstan
was jailed for a total of eight and a half years at the Old Bailey today for two terrifying
attacks on women. Both assaults were carried out on employees of branches of the Slug and Lettuce pubs
in central London in a bid to make them hand over keys to the bar tills, the court heard.
One, Laura Patterson, had both her eyes blacked, her lip cut and had suspected fractures
to the jaw and cheekbone. She still suffers physical discomfort and mental trauma."
He apparently woke the women up in the middle of the night at knifepoint, then beat the up until they handed over the keys to the tills.
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
I heard he was involved in the robbery, but didn't do nothing to the women, but wouldn't grass so copped the lot, all hearsay of course
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
Well he was clearly there when the women were getting the shit bashed out of them. And I presume he was there as the muscle.Coco wrote:I heard he was involved in the robbery, but didn't do nothing to the women, but wouldn't grass so copped the lot, all hearsay of course

He paid the price for his actions.
Paid his debt.
Let him fight!
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
Right, lets clear a few things up here once and for all ok.
For those of you that dont know who I am my name is Lorna Rainey, I am Howard's wife so I know a little bit of what I am talking about ok ?
Ok, good
Onto Terry.
Terry Dunstan did not touch any women, that was bullshit printed by certain papers and websites to improve sales and hits...It is much better for them to have a 'name' than some random bloke knocking women about.
Fact, Dunstan went to prison for something unpleasant, fact, Dunstan and I regard eachother as brother and sister, but that doesnt mean I dont have my eyes open. What he did was wrong and he went away like anyone else would and served his time for his actions on that night. It was proved in court that he touched NO women and I showed the relevent paperwork to the BBBofC proving this, they accepted it and I cant see why others cant, or is it that it is more interesting to talk about something that happened over 10 years ago ?
Terry has a wonderful family and friends, he came out and set about making amends for his actions, he has a great job, an amazing son and family and we all totally support his need to return to the ring and put right what went wrong. He trains 6 days a week morning and night, he is found in the gym on sunday mornings training the kids, he isnt the man he was and just wants the chance to prove that to people.
I am getting sick of this bollocks, I appreciate the support that is growing for Terry and so does he and he would love to return that faith that many are now showing him by boxing, as soon as someone gives him half a chance to do so.
Lorna Rainey

Youd think so wouldnt ya hon lol sadly not though xx
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
I appreciate you taking the time to answer, Lorn. I am not of the belief that he shouldn't box, but that you cannot expect someone with his past to get backing from a big promoter or TV.Lorn wrote:Right, lets clear a few things up here once and for all ok.

Obviously, I am of the belief that the details of the case were proved in court. And someone did that to the women in the two cases and whether it was Terry, or someone with Terry, mud sticks (was anyone else found guilty?). But top boxers are role models and when one is convicted of something like Terry was, it affects the whole sport.
I am glad to hear he is involved with training kids and doing positive things with his life.

Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
I agree that anyone who beats women and kids shouldnot be alowed to fight, but he didn't o that..did he?
Coming from South London I heard a lot about what did an did not happen and several twists and versions of events - robbery is robbery and a terrible crime etc, but he has served his time.
We all make mistakes. Mike Tyson has made many a mistake but I bet a lof of you on here would LOVE TO HAVE HIS AUTOGRAPH or have him talk to you etc etc.

Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
If Terry gets anywhere near a title shot (of any sort) then the papers will bring his past up for sure.
Personally i'm not someone who thinks people can't be rehabilitated, and make amends for past crimes.
Boxing can help in this aspect, and has done in the past.
The board here are one of the strictest when it comes to re-licencing boxers after commiting a crime, so Terry must of served all the time of his sentance to get his licence back, you can't box here if your on parole.
For him to be banned completly would be punishing him twice, when he has already served his time in the eyes of the law.

Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
and you wonder why scott Harrison cant get his licence back
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
The BBBoC generally take the view that you can't have your license back untill your time is seved, whether it is jail, tag or community service, Harrison's stuff is still pending.Gazmac81 wrote:and you wonder why scott Harrison cant get his licence back
Dunstan did a lump of bird for his crimes, apparently would have done a lot less if he grassed, but this is a fella brought up the hard way, involved with some serious fellas and decided to keep his head down and do his time.
It's brilliant he has kept in shape and helped out in the gym and that he can keep going. I hope he gets some breaks, he was certainly a classy operator in the ring.

Let's not make out that Dunstan was the victim in this. He made his choice by getting involved and he will always have to drag this round with him, much like the actual victim will has had to deal with the after affects. He has done his time, but as he had a career in the public eye, he cannot expect it not to follow him.
In the court reports in the papers, the victim's statements made no mention of any other attacker. But they said he was trapped by DNA in one case. One piece said the victim was left partially deaf, with impaired vision and needing plastic surgery.

No one said he was the victim. Another point, the general public have never heard of Dunstan and if he gets a major title then yes they moight bring it up.
10 years is a long time - he did his time. A lot of people I know have been in the papers for all sorts and the crap the papers make up is amazing!
Terrible what happened to the victim, I hope they have managed to recover in all aspects.
As for TD -as a fighter he is skilled and I would like to see him do well.
Are you a Tyson fan?
Re: Scared of an inactive 40 year old?
Yea thats True the problem with Harrison is once he gets one court case nearly over with he gets into something else
Once the Spanish one is dealt with i would like to see him get stuck in as he was great fighter , defo better than the current crop at Feather and Superfeather in Britain, however it would be hard road back now to get to the super fit boxer that he was then ,
