Are you a Tyson fan?

:D[/quote]

I wouldn't call myself a Tyson fan, no.
But what papers can write about court cases is very specific - they can't just make stuff up. I just wanted to put an alternative side to the "would have done a lot less if he grassed" line, which puts a side that seems totally at odds with what was reported from court.

Thanks for posting Lorna. Always nice to see people involved in the business posting. Really enjoyed reading about the Raineys and their fighters in the book "Looking for a fight." Terry Dunstan was a classy operator back in the day - smashing Gurov in a round and in that double-knockdown thriller with Carl Thompson. Hope he gets some fights sharpish - he's served his time and theres no reason he should continued to be punished for his crime. Though sharpish is the key word - forty even for a crusierweight is getting on a bit. Down the line how about Hide vs Dunstan? :D :box:

firstly hi lorna, great to see you here honey, hope howard is ok, how is the book coming on??

and secondly, dunstan has doen his time and appears to have been made a scapegoat. people on here have short memories..

we would love naz back but remember what he did to the fella in the car, the sickening fractures etc.

we love frank bruno..but he allegedly hit his wife........ know what i mean harry !!

i nearly got a hard on when i met don king.....but he has done time for alleged murder i think.

rico hoye....who this country welcomed to the magna centre to fight clinton woods had been inside for alleged murder.

gerald maclennan was a complete arsehole socially, killing animals etc, but he was allowed here to fight benn.

gary delaney allegedly twatted someone outside a club.....and killed them !!

one of the booth brothers (not sure which one, the ugly one...lol), allegedly is/was an alleged convicted junkie who did bird..we let him fight again on prime time tv.

mike tyson..was convicted of rape, did his time and was welcomed back into boxing, we all embraced him as a fighter !!

so.....less of the short memories fellas, let dunstan fight, he has probably only got 3 years left in the sport at most, someone give him a chance.

ok, ill get off my soap-box now........

Very good post Rhino.
Can't see how it can be argued with in the sense that TD should be allowed to get on with his life/career the same as the people mentioned in your post.
Very tough one to think out really, like you say.. boxer's like Tyson and the G-Man are idolised... we kinda brush under the carpet the shit they have got up to. Just because someone is more famous, or more successful doesn't mean they should be looked at in a different way.. but they are.

Everybody is entitled to make mistakes, I believe, so longas they don't repeat them. If they do, then I have no sympathy. The oft-cited comparison in this thread is Tyson, and IMO rape is a much worse crime than robbery (even with use of violence, which we assume Dunstan was not personally responsible for), and yet Tyson served about a third of what Dunstan did. But that's another story. What's done is done, although we have strayed from my original point (however this thread does prove how Terry's crimes will follow him).

So, back to the original point, why can't Dunstan get a fight. Sure it's off-TV, small hall stuff (and thus less money than a TV show), but journeymen take fights in that environment week in, week out. Is Dunstan some kind of monster at 40 years old and with four rounds against Paul Bonson under his belt? He didn't look like a monster against Bonson - that's not an insuklt, obviously it was just a workout, nothing more, nothing less.

Mathew Ellis is a strange one - he's used to fighting heavyweights and last time out went in with a world class, young cruiserweight in Maccarinelli. Is Dunstan more intimidating than that?? OK, I'm sure Ellis will have been very well paid for going in with Macca at late notice on PPV, but that would be the exception. He's firmly in journeyman mode these days and has been off-TV and/or in the "opponent's" corner many times.

This thread is interesting, and I am so glad to see positive remarks and honest ones.

No one is trying to make Terry a victim, as I said in my post, what happened was unpleasant but Terry is a good man who has more passion for this game than most. It took alot for him to come back and try again, all we are asking for him and all he would ask for himself is a fair chance.

I dont know what the next few months hold but I do know I have a fighter that wants to fight and wants to put his past behind him in the best way he can, of course he cant, wont, and never would expect people to just forget, he never will himself, just try and see him for the professional boxer than can fight and will entertain boxing fans.

The best thing that can happen now is that Tel gets a couple of work outs and see where it goes from there, he isnt shouting world titles, he is no fool, he knows he has to work his way back in and then we will see what happens.

What happened happened and no one can change that but he can move forward in his life and thats all he is asking.

I have only just seen this thread and I just want to add my little bit. I have known Terry for a few years now and he has become a second brother to me. he is always there for me no matter what even if he has things to do and is the main reason I have improved so much over the past 18 months in boxing. He is a lovely guy who got caught up with the wrong people and made a mistake and has paid for it. In fact he has more than paid for it as his treatment in prison by the guards was disgraceful to say the least.
I know he still has the skills and desire and hope he gets a shot to make good in boxing again

Well said, it can happen to anyone.

Hopefuly he gets some decent fights and does well.

Growing up in Inner City London ( South London especially!!) has its pitfalls, easy to follow the wrong payh, just takes one mistake.

Back to Boxing - I think he may well have to be thrown in at the deepish end - he can punch and has decent skills, maybe more than some of the top in this country. English Title is a good start. Wish him well.

Ringside Boxing Report: Terry Dunstan vs. Paul Bonson Boxing News

Ringside Boxing Report: Terry Dunstan vs. Paul Bonson
By Jane Warburton October 12th, 2008 All Ringside Boxing

© Jane Warburton / Saddo Boxing

Friday night at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield, England, Glyn Rhodes promoted a five contest fight night. The original headliner should have been the bout between local boxer Billy Boyle and Northamptons Paul David for the vacant British Masters title, but a last minute change of opponent saw this contest changed to a six rounder.

Instead, Boyle - "The Peoples Poet" - now faced Latvian boxer Martin Kukuls. Kukuls seemed to be enjoying the occasion as he came out for the start of the contest, but the smiles were soon wiped off his face by a determined Boyle.

Boyle had his opponent backed up against the ropes for most of the time using the right hook to the body against a defensive Kukuls. Under attack from Boyle - the Latvian dropped to his knees against the ropes in round three and could not make the count. A jubilant Boyle improves to 10-0 (7).

Popular Ross "The Boss" Burkinshaw came back after a shoulder injury to win in spectacular style over Mike "Hollywood" Holloway in a scheduled four round bantamweight contest. The former "Rifles" man was keen to impress after suffering a dislocated shoulder in his last contest in February and there was no doubt as to his form when he made short work of the Leeds man in round one. Burkinshaw's record now stands at 5-1-1 (3).

Local Boxer Lee "Brown Sugar" Edwards faced workhorse David "Kirky" Kirk in a four round light middleweight contest. Fresh from the success of his impressive title win against Alex Mattvienko last month - Edwards looked to be enjoying the four rounder against Kirky. Using straight lefts and rights, Edwards fought well against the tough southpaw and securing a 40-36 points win. Edwards improves to 9-1 (1).

Making his pro-debut last night was Sheffield boxer Wayne Reed who faced Paul Royston, also from Sheffield, in a six round middleweight contest. Reed dominated the fight - practically chasing his opponent round the ring. Royston landed a big shot in the last round but it was too little too late for the experienced fighter who - with bloody nose - relinquished a 60-56 points win. Reed scoring his first pro win on points.

The fight which raised perhaps the most interest was that of former European and British Cruiserweight Champion Terry Dunstan and Paul Bonson as they came out for a four round cruiserweight contest. 39 year old Londoner Dunstan had not fought since 1999 but now faced experienced Yorkshire man Bonson. Landing a number of straight lefts, Dunstan scored a good points win over Bonson, 40-36. Dunstan's record now stands at 20-2 (12).

No one will want to fight him unless the money is right, there are not many folk like Bonson about at the higher weights who will take shorter money as he is confident he won't get bashed.
In the lower weights there are plenty of good journeyman about, but the likes of Ellis won't fight unless he has top dollar

first let me say i'm all in favour of dunstan fighting again - he has done his time so let him earn a few quid legitimately.

but he wasn't just a good guy caught up in a single bad situation, he was the muscle for a well-known london family and probably got away with far more than he was sent down for.

he has had to learn a hard lesson and has lost a big part of his life inside so hopefully he can now make the most of the obvious talents he has.
dunstan v hide would be good eh?

Namby pamby, cuddle a hoodie, champagne socialists would never stand for this. These idiots are the reasons we can't box in school no more.
It's a great idea tho and far better than aspiring to become a steriod induced body builder
