MIKE GOMEZ – Gets another crack at a title fight when he boxes Ricky Burns for the Commonwealth Super-Featherweight title on the 27th March in Glasgow on a allegedly show. Mike has never won a Commonwealth belt and is really up for this one , expect some more fireworks !!!

GARY SYKES – Has been nominated to fight Anthony Crolla in a eliminator for the British Super-featherweight title , this should be a cracking fight and has to take place by the end of May 2009 unless one withdraws and Gary certainly will not.

GARY DAVIES – Has been nominated to challenge English champion Jamie McDonnell for the his Bantamweight title.

MARK THOMPSON – Damaged his hand on the last day of sparring and therefore had to withdraw from Fridays Commonwealth final eliminator.

MIKE ROBINSON - Will now box a 6rnd contest in London next Thursday after his opponent for Friday night withdrew

I'd have to say that Burns would start a heavy favourite for me, he looked good last time out.

Shame that Thompson has had to pull out from Fridays show, he's been marking time for a while now, and the fight against Kotey would of moved him a bit closer to a title shot of some sort.

As entertaining as he is, I'm really not keen on watching much more of Michael Gomez marching forward in straight lines taking solid shots. He's shipped an awful lot of punishment over the years.

Was surprised to see this was at super feather as well. Didn't think we see Gomez back here after the Johanneson fight.

Burns wins for me, can't see Gomez getting the stoppage and think it'll be one way traffic after 4 rounds. Gomez is going to take a lot of shots given Burns' lack of power

I would love to see gomez give last big performance and leave it at that put ive seen various interviews and have never got the impression that he wants to pack it in. He is only 31 but is a very shot 31 year old

I think he gave the one last effort in the Johanesson and the Khan fights. Exciting fights both, but he just can't seem to move his head out of the way on time, anymore. Still good enough to compete, but taking an alarming # of flush shots.

Looks like he's going wherever the opportunity is.

I have a feeling that even if mike kept losing that he would continue fighting. It would keep him off the streets he has said that when hes not fighting he gets bored.

I think he should take the fight is it comes up again but for now a Burns fight will do, although Burns might just lead him a merry dance for 12 rounds without any danger of stopping him. Gomez might be dangerous for the first 3 or 4 rounds but Burns' whipping counters can keep him "honest" from then on.

If Arthur is moving up to lightweight, then he should be well in the British and Euro title mix - but well out of the world title mix (that'll be for Khan). Think AAA is selling himself a bit short if he really did try and get a Gomez rematch.

"Braveheart" Ricky Burns defends his Commonwealth super-featherweight title against perennial Manchester threat Michael "Predator" Gomez on home turf in Glasgow on March 27.
Burns, from nearby Coatbridge won the title with a sharp-boxing decision over Osumanu Akaba last September at York Hall and retained with a sharp-hitting seven-round stoppage of Ghanaian "Black Mamba" Yakubu Amidu in November in Glasgow. While the latter looked like an 'iffy' stoppage, Amidu was getting nowhere against the lean, lanky, tricky Burns, who moves well and counters hard. Amidu had held South Africa's world class lightweight Ali Funeka to a majority 12-round decision in South Africa in 2007.
Burns is still only 25 but looks a more mature, more rounded fighter for the 12 rounds he went with Leeds puncher Carl Johanneson in a gallant British title defeat in Leeds in February 2007. Burns was down three times but showed grit and character to survive and has since reeled off 10 wins. He might be ready for someone like Gomez, an animal of a fighter who likes to savage his prey quickly and blows up if he fails in the first few rounds. Gomez had Amir Khan down in the second round of a gutsy crack at the Commonwealth lightweight title last year but was then stopped in the fifth with body punches. He also blew up, after a bright start, against that man Johanneson and was stopped in six rounds in Doncaster in October 2007. To counter that, Gomez destroyed Alex Arthur in five shocking one-sided rounds in 2003, and Arthur went on to convincingly outpoint Burns.

Gomez, 31, has been campaigning at lightweight - and even light-welterweight - in recent fights and will not find it easy to boil down to 9st 4lbs. In fact he will surely suffer for the effort. This separates the two. Burns is the more disciplined, more composed fighter and if he survives those scary weigh-in scenes, and those scary opening rounds, the Scot should claim his greatest scalp to date.

Unfortunately at British and Commonwealth title level Gomez is now only really a four-round fighter. I can see Burns winning on a six round stoppage with Gomez running out of steam and beginning to eat some full-blooded shots from Burns.

I hope Gomez wins though.

Watch the WBO rankings. Its quite alarming.

Marco Antonio Barrera is ranked as the #1 contender.

Khan is ranked #9 (which is surprising low for a former #1 contender).

ALEX ARTHUR is ranked #13 - no fight at Lightweight yet.

Campbell isn't going to stick to the WBO according to reports, he's on the verge of being stripped. You know what I am thinking?
