What's happening with John Duddy?
What's happening with John Duddy?
The guy hasn't fought in nearly 7 months and I don't see anything on the schedule.
I know he saw a potential title shot with Kelly Pavlik fall through. Then I heard he was moving down to light middle for a potential title opportunity there, but nothing has been said of him lately.
Is he caught up in negotiations for something? Is he waiting on Pavlik to beat Rubio? I know he's been on the cusp of getting a title shot, but surely he needs a fight to keep himself active?

Hopefully he is working on his defense and slipping punches..

His frustrating inactivity probably has something to do with this:

Duddy is limited.
His flattering win over a shot Howard Eastman will be his finest moment i feel.
Re: What's happening with John Duddy?
All of this cant have done his confidence any good. Very messy situation. He showed improvement in his last fight and things looked to be on the up but everything has gone downhill since then
Re: What's happening with John Duddy?
Sounds like he is doing most of the harm to himself. Irish Ropes sound like they are trying to be reasonable about it. From the sounds of it, if he fights on their Patrick's Day bill, then he's free to do what he wants.
To think he could go from a potential 1 million euro pay day to just a 15k one.
And I actually had him losing to Eastman on my card, but I just want to see any of the Irish guys in with a title shot at this stage. There are plenty of them close to one, but none have yet secured one.

There is a great article on the situation there and it makes Irish Ropes look like small time mugs, almost sabotaging Duddy's career for financial gain.
A very interesting read about how business is done in some corners of the boxing world.

I wonder would Duddy be re-signing with an IRISH promoter soon ? (proper Irish, imean )
Can anyone confirm that these are the same McLoughlains that are currently working with Pascal Collins (Packie) and the Hylands ?

Re: What's happening with John Duddy?
whats "proper" Irish. AFAIK the McLoughins are Mayomen? Do you mean a promoter based in Ireland?Gareth wrote:Very interesting read.Cannibal wrote:http://www.secondsout.com/Columns/index ... 8&cs=53435

thankfully there are a few more - Gary Hyde seems to be stepping up to the mark!Cannibal wrote:Brian Peters I'd imagine.

Kieran Boyce perhaps. His show was pulled at the last minute though and Hyde stepped in at a weeks notice.
That Thomas Hauser article is some length; I'm surprised he hasn't got RSI!

Yes I was really happy that hyde stepped in to save that card last week even though he new he would make a loss. Were you there how did it sell at short notice? Ireland needs more promoters and competition with peterssligobhoy67 wrote:thankfully there are a few more - Gary Hyde seems to be stepping up to the mark!Cannibal wrote:Brian Peters I'd imagine.

Re: What's happening with John Duddy?
Obviously the Hauser article was written from Duddy's perspective, perhaps the McLoughlins were unwilling or unasked for comment. But that aside it makes for very very uncomfortable reading.steve689 wrote:Kieran Boyce perhaps. His show was pulled at the last minute though and Hyde stepped in at a weeks notice.

The real same of it is that Duddy didnt get the Philips fight which I think he would have won - and therefore now be a legit world champion.
Duddy is a stand up guy and the only time that I have meet him face to face he was great and had plenty of time to chat. The picture on his wikipedia article shows evidence of our meeting (me being the pink clad arm around his shoulder). But also the McLoughins always came across well and Jim Borzell who post on here has always been a gent.
sad sad sad situation!

Re: What's happening with John Duddy?
a car, flat and small cash sum can only be about $25,000 per annum by my working
A flat in Queens, probably Maspeth or Woodside is say $1,000 per month
$250 per week - which Duddy says wasnt every week is $9,750 assuming that he got if three out of evey four weeks
And a car like that would be about £300 per month

Re: What's happening with John Duddy?
Just read the article and it was disgusting. As has been said it was only from one side of the argument but my suspision is that thatis because the mcloughlains wouldnt respond. This couldnt happen at a worse time for john , when in his prime. Hauser really did a lot of work on this article.
