Carlos Cruzat pulls out

Post by REAL_DEAL »

BBC

Welsh cruiserweight Enzo Maccarinelli will defend his WBU title against Belgium's Ismail Abdoul on 3 July.
Maccarinelli was due to make his fourth defence against Carlos Cruzat at the Newport Sports Centre, but the Chilean withdrew with an ankle injury

However, the 27-year-old Abdoul, who has 21 wins from 26 fights with 10 knockouts, could be a tougher test.

"Abdoul is a respectable opponent and can give me a sterner test than Cruzat," said Swansea's Maccarinelli.

Abdoul lost on points earlier this year to the well-regarded Vincenzo Cantatore for the European title and last year also went the distance with Rudiger May, another of the division's better boxers.

"The change of challenger hasn't affected my training, which has gone fantastic so far," Maccarinelli added.

"Abdoul has taken Cantatore and May - who are both ranked in the top ten in most of the boxing organisations - the distance.

"I can punch harder than either of these so I will be looking to make a firm statement by knocking out Abdoul."

The 23-year-old Maccarinelli, who has 13 knockouts in 18 fights, last fought in February when he stopped durable Londoner Garry Delaney in eight rounds.

Also featuring on the card is Newbridge super-featherweight Gavin Rees, 2002 Commonwealth Games champion Jamie Arthur, Pontypool welterweight Tony Doherty, Mountain Ash light-heavyweight Nathan King, Abercynon welterweight Taz Jones and Rhondda Valley light-welterweight Barrie Jones, who makes his professional debut.

Gavin Rees fights in Newport a couple of weeks before he fights Mike Anchondo for the WBO super-featherweight title in Dallas! The BBC ought to dump their boxing website as well.

A Belgium light heavyweight, hmmmmmmm.......

In fact, sounds like he's Morrocan. Looks like another early night for the Welshman.

Cruzat has pulled out twice now. He cited a knee injury in December and now an ankle injury. Somebody break his leg to make sure.

I saw the Abdul vs Cantatore fight on Eurosport. He's pretty raw and their was lots of holding I seem to remember.

They scheduled Cruzat twice? That fight was going to be the biggest joke ever, its insulting to the fans that they wanted him so bad.

Another stiff for Macca , this guys won 2 of 5 fights this year. When are they gonna take any chances with him, they obviously dont believe in him.I think the chins the problem. He has still to fight someone in the top 70 in the world,v.v.v.v.v poor in my humble opinion.

Yes, this guy is very durable. Been stopped only once - in the 12th and last round of a fight in Poland, and even that was dodgy by all accounts.

I will post a link to a couple of rounds of Ismael Abdoul against Italian slugger Giacobbe Fragomeni.
Abdoul got robbed in this fight. Yes he won only 2 out of his last 5 but 4 of them were at cruiser against the top of the European cruiserweights

What do y'all think of Abdoul?

Now I expect you to cheer for Holland and against Germany!
I gave up on the QF but you never know!

Yeah Nedved isn't playing, Rosicky probably neither.
The Germans will be playing with only one forward :o Just like they played us.
That gives me hope, Völler is not what you call a master tactician I guess.

A gathering of Czech-based Dutch companies has offered the czechs one million for the player that scores a goal. Even when they lose.
