Who have Fight Academy got in their stable? Doesn't bode well if Dennis can only sign Jeffries if he secures a TV deal.
Re: JEFFRIES 'GUTTED' AS DEAL COLLAPSES
Cant Fight academy co promote with Matchroom or Maloney to get tv?

Come on Spud, don't do a boxing chat and disappear up your own arse when anything negative is being applied to your respective tea drinkers.

I didn't think so either but then I thought I spotted a snippet in Boxing News saying that he was. Maybe I dreamt the whole thinglightheavy wrote:Price has not turned over

I am not doing a dissapearing act mate - just completely gutted for Dennis and Richard mate - I am also gutted for boxing as a whole as we need the sport on the terrestrial channels.Twinkle Toes wrote:Come on Spud, don't do a boxing chat and disappear up your own arse when anything negative is being applied to your respective tea drinkers.
With regards to Fight Academy - I have spoke to Dennis and Richard on a couple of occasions - the fights are still on - for example the show in Jersey is still going ahead - and when fans say the promoters should dip their hands in their pockets - trust me Dennis has been doing that for a while now - and so have all the other promoters who put on non TV shows.
With regards Tony Jeffries - whatever happens good luck to the man - I hope he wins a world title and I hope he is going to make a lot of money!!! - the only thing to his detriment is that being a Newcastle fan - I hope Tony is truly devastated and gutted sometime in May when his team Sunderland are relegated from the premiership!!!
Thats all I will saying on this thread - I am not bitter - just got my eyes open - as stated on other threads that ITV are making more cutbacks than people realise!! thats a fact and its not just boxing that will be suffering.

Re: JEFFRIES 'GUTTED' AS DEAL COLLAPSES
I think everyone accepts, and is aware of, the fact that Promotors often walk a tightrope with a show, if there's no TV money backing it.
However, I stand by what I said regarding TV Shows, and that is that the money on the table from the TV Company is the basis of the budget.
That being the case, the Promotor is not running a risk - provided he gets his budgeting right.
Sorry to bring this back to Wazza, but he is the biggest and the best in the UK, and therefore the best example.
How many small hall shows has he put on in the last 3 years without TV funding ?
How often has he made a loss on a show ?
We are all living in a different world financially now to that that existed 12 months ago.
Time to put your money where you mouth is Mr Promotor.
Speculate to accumulate.
The days of relying on TV back up are over.

Re: JEFFRIES 'GUTTED' AS DEAL COLLAPSES
It's ironic that Warren can play silly beggars and walk into one tv deal after another, and yet other promoters are left fighting for the left overs.
It's a big deal that boxing is going to be towned down on terrestrial tv, and is a sad day for the sport in my opinion.

Re: JEFFRIES 'GUTTED' AS DEAL COLLAPSES
Spud, did he ever actually have a TV deal in place? I know he tried to give the rights away to ITV (Hardly a smart move and in the interests of the sport as a whole I might add) but they weren't interested in the product for one and secondly because the production costs were still not within their budget restraints. Furthermore, FA had no substance to back up Jeffries early fights and after Audley's embrionic career no TV exec was going to fall for that and show a 4 or 6 round contest on prime time, with no back up.
Jeffries states publically that it's not Dennis' fault but privately it's no secret that he is seething. He didn't receive his signing bonus nor the car he was promised either did he, hence the reason the deal has gone pear-shaped? You stated recenty (and with a puffed-out chest no doubt) that Fight Academy were thriving and then almost at the same time this news breaks - mugged you off a a tad I think!.
So enlighten us Spud because whilst you waive the FA flag with pride you really don't know the truth of whats going on do you? The truth and the facts are that FA took a punt and it backfired (Thats commendable in one respect and unfortunate in another) but the hard facts are, before anyone blames ITV for this debacle, is that there never was an ITV deal or the possibility of one either according to ITV.
Tony Jeffries has been let down badly and maybe he should blame himself initially for taking what was undoubtedly a good offer, the best out there no doubt, but he was blinkered by size of the carrot instead of looking at the ground in which it was growing.
Needless to say, with the dreaded credit crunch in full swing and budgets being cut everywhere, not to mention most of the big Promoters now having signed their new faces, set their dates and selling tickets, Tony may find himself taking a smaller offer than he would have got originally had he not signed with Hobson in the first place.
Forget the fact that many people are indeed using the excuse of the credit crunch and TV budgets being cut, in this case it appears to me that Tony Jeffries was duped from the off by Fight Academy and the deal he was offered was just pie in the sky from day one.
Perhaps you can enlighten us all Spud and let me know if I'm off the mark.

Re: JEFFRIES 'GUTTED' AS DEAL COLLAPSES
Whilst we are searching for questions from promotional insiders...could Boxing Chat explain the current TV situation as regards:
a) Sports Network?
b) allegedly?
I can't keep up. More twists than a sidewinder's helter-skelter.
Does any TV company have any legal action ongoing against either of the above entities?
Thanks in advance for your info.

There may well be a lot of truth to that, but it's pretty pathetic to spend the sort of time and effort you did making that post (digging at one of your rivals) and then disappear into the night when somebody pulls rank on your Daddy and Sports Network.boxingchat wrote:Spud, did he ever actually have a TV deal in place? Half your posts (probably more, come to think of it) are spent running down the opposition or speculating on their futures. That alone tells me something.
These things happen in boxing. There's no need to wade in with both feet on Hobson and Jeffries. Are you telling me Daddy's never promised the world and then delivered the WBU title in a Brentwood lesiure centre to some starry eyed up and comer? Oops, don't answer that - we've all seen it.

Pathetic would be sitting on here 24/7 waiting for replies!
As for the FW/SN situation with TV - very healthy would be the simple answer!
And finally, I can't help thinking of the insults and accusations that would have been posted on here if FW or SN had treated Jeffries in the way FA appear to have?
