Raynell Williams Staying in the Amateur Ranks for 2012 Games

Good news, Raynell is only 19 so even if he goes for one my Olympics he'll only be 23 when he comes out. I think he's one of the most talented out of the bunch on the 08 team. I wonder if he will stay at 125 or move up to 132.

It is great news for USA Boxing, but I wouldn't be too thrilled if I was an open-class boxer in the 125 or 132 pound class. Ray is a good kid and I think he made the right decision. He can get a lot of international experience over the next 3.5 years and be ready for London.

I was thinking the same thing too Dennis! Some boxers had probably breathed a sigh of relief after Beijing thinking he would be gon. But, in four more years, Raynell will be only that much better.

Guys in his weight class probably thought they had it made with both boxers by the name of Williams out of it. Hylon turned pro and they probably figured that Ray would too. No such luck. Ray is going to be a force to deal with in either the feather or lightweight class.
