Steve Bunce and his ridiculous opinions

Look, I like his enthusiasm, i like that he loves these guys, but in the last 6 months I've heard him say that:

Hatton would beat Cotto
Derry matthews is world class

These are off the top of my head. I'm so worn out of his hyperbolic exaggeration on these things. Hatton doesn't possess Margo's punch resistance, so if he took the same sort of shellacking that Cotto gave out in those first 5 rounds, there's be no Ricky Hatton. people complete overrate Hatton based on one world-class performance and then dominating guys who he should have beaten.

Steve, if you read this - you're entitled to your (undoubtedly) informed opinion, but please think before you make such OTT claims such as those.

It's nonsense anyway, Cotto had been hurt before - it wasn't like the Mosley fight was that long before Margo laid out a beating. As it turns out, there's a lot of reports that Margo's handwrappings have been seriously dodgy. More as it comes.

Agree with every word of this. Even my missus laughs along with Bunce's jokes and enthusiasm, which makes it easier for me to get boxing on the telly.
Most important man in boxing on TV for me (apart from the guy who keeps buying all these fights for Setanta)

Bunce is singly the biggest reason why there is so much boxing on our screens - he has persuaded, bullied, threatened and whatever TV executives that boxing is the way forward and for that he deserves all of our support instead of comments which he does not deserve after all what he has done!!!

We wanted more boxing on our screens - Bunce and Setanta have given us exactly that, we wanted a weekly boxing discussion programme, Bunce and Setanta are giving us that and it seems after its success ITV 4 were starting to dip their toes in the water.

I will state again - Boxing enthusiasts are in debt to Bunce - and personally I do not give a f*ck what he is like as long as our great sport is continually shown!!!

I love Buncey, but this statement is ridiculous. The guy who has done more to make sure that boxing is on TV is allegedly. He got ITV back in, he got Setanta involved. Ironically, by showing them the potential, he fell out with both. It was only then that they saw they could make it into a success and only in the past six months that Buncey got such a big on-screen presence. To make out that he is in somehow involved in negotiations for TV rights or telling them what to buy is laughable. After all, his biggest employer until recently was the BBC - various TV gigs plus a couple of shows on BBC London Radio - and he didn't persuade them to buy any fights, did he?
Where his weekly show is such a success is that they haven't gone down the Sky Sports News road of just plugging their own fights - therefore completely undermining themselves as a legitimate new source. Sky Sports News haven't mentioned Calzaghe's fights against Kessler, Hopkins or Jones, which must be hugely embarrassing for any actual journalists there.

Well I thought Bunce's summing up of the Mosley vs Margarito fight in that - "it was all over after the 3rd round" was a bit extreme, and also "Cotto vs Maragirito was CLOSE after 4 rounds" was another comment that was... well wrong.

1) Cotto had swept the first four rounds.

2) I was sensing a possible change in the fight untill Mosley landed that sweet uppercut with about 20 seconds to go of the 8th. Margarito was winning the 8th clearly up untill that point and hurt was backing Mosley up in that round.

I couldn't care less if we should be "thankful" to him for pushing Setanta to screen more boxing. I like his articles and I like the boxing hour but, when he says stupid stuff that Mosley was 5 seconds away from losing to Mayorga, right after admitting Mosley was ahead on the scorecards, he sounds a complete berk.

As for Ricardo Torres being C-list? The guy was a world champion. He's definitely a mid-b class fighter. Hatton might have had some success with that Cotto, but the Cotto that fought Zab Judah at WW (faster and more powerful than Ricky) would completely trash Hatton. The one that came out for 7 rounds against Margarito would end Ricky's career.

Bunce is a credit to the sport. The growth of their TV show is proof.

He has a good sense of humour too. We ripped him at Hatton v Mayweather for turning up with a hottie, he was a top bloke and took it.
