Elaborate please. Ask the question again, but be more specific.

Sorry, I meant against what callibre of opposition has Margarito looked excellent on the counters and body.Dioufy wrote:Elaborate please. Ask the question again, but be more specific.
Not Williams, not Santos, not for a large chunk against Cotto and not before Clottey did his hand in.
Margarito has looked excellent against sub standard opposition.
Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
What a performance that was from Mosley. We all knew Margarito had his limitations, but it takes a special fighter and a special performance to exploit them to the extent that Sugar Shane did last night. I picked Antonio to win last night, but said that I thought Mosley had the style to beat him I just not the youth. Was that the same fighter we saw against Mayorga a few months back???
Breathtaking performance from Shane, his movement, judgement of distance, handspeed and tactics were perfect, BIG props to Nazim Richardson as well. The right hand worked for him all night and when he had Tony hurt his finish was clinical. Being the first person to stop Margarito is a massive accolade to have on your record IMO
(get him drug tested

Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
He looked good against Cotto on the counters - that 5th round was a clear example before he took over it. He doesn't has a wide diversity of shots, so mixing his shots up and going to the body is vital and he will be predictable, like last night.stujones wrote:Sorry, I meant against what callibre of opposition has Margarito looked excellent on the counters and body.Dioufy wrote:Elaborate please. Cotto - he got hammered up until Cotto ran outta gas. I only gave Margo two rounds.
Williams - excellent them last few rounds.
Clottey - still did a good job. I think he would beat a fit Clottey anyways.
Santos - I didn't watch that fight.
One thing for sure, Margo is better than last night, no doubt.

Sorry to bang on about this again but after post this I'll get off my soapbox.

Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
they did their homework on tony. great distance, straight flurries, round the corner power shots from both directions, nice side movement and what i loved most of all - excellent body shape with which to launch those destructive right hands. he still had to take a few but it was a dream to watch.

Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
Mosley made him look shit, because he never stayed still long enough to let Margarito get a rhythmn - and hit him so hard and often that he couldn't grind him down.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:The biggest certainly all year (barring crazy cuts and bumps) was that this fight was going the distance.
I fancied Mosley to win on points...simply can't believe how utterly shit Margarito was.
Cotto tried the same thing, but he wasn't hitting margarito with the same power - hence he got walked down in the end.
I also think thatg Cotto's busted nose hampered his breathing and he tired as a result.
Mosley however fought one of the most complete performances I've seen in a long time, and at 37 the best of his career. Where did that speed come from, he's not looked anywhere near that quick for 5 years!
Margarito did what he always does, trundling forward and trying to rough his opponent up, but when he got there, he found Mosley not just willing but able to take him into the trenches.
Fekking brilliant stuff, an absolute pleasure to watch!

Quite agree, they were not saying that Mosley was neccessarily on a par with Moore or Robinson, but that like both of them he was trying to turn back the clock and win the title back.chinny wrote:I don't agree. I think Mosley must be having whatever fruit juice Hopkins has every morning, because he looked 10 years younger than he did against Mayorga.
This has really thrown Welterweight into dissaray - there's no real dominant force as such, Mosley was beaten by Cotto, Cotto lost to Margarito, Williams beat Margarito, but has moved on.
One thing that occured to me. How good must Oscar's beard be to have taken the bombs Mosley threw at him, when you see what the same bombs did to Margarito!

Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
WOW just watched for the second time, what a performance, very happy to be proved wrong, thought Shane was shot based on the Mayorga performance I didnt even see
HOWEVER this win flatters Shane a little because Marg was near impossible to miss (especially with the right), no movement and slow to pull the trigger. Shane looked so fast because he didn't need to move and had an easy target to fire at. Marg is still a beast of a fighter but very limited tailor made for Shane and has became overrated.
Shane just cracked the unbreakable chin and at 37 looks like he'll be hard to beat at Welter. Only Cotto and Clottey are the current 2 who'd give him problems, Mayweather looks retired for the significant future (saw him interviewed saying his body had broke down), Williams I doubt will make 147 again (doubt Shane wants him anyway, Shane's dad said Williams should forget 147 and fight at 154-160 and become a great 3 division champ). Mosley also wrecks the Hatton and Pacquaio winner

Think Mosley admitted to taking EPO (imo the best boxing performance enhancer (PES) because it increases your VO2 Max, ie stamina), you can actually buy a natural substance that is similar to EPO but milder, which is perfectly legal in boxing and the IOCDG. wrote:Matt W wrote:Sorry to bang on about this again but after post this I'll get off my soapbox.

Every fighter uses some performance enhancers including your British favourates, yet some are legal, some are not. Many fighters will easily fool doping tests and take illegal PES yet not get caught while others like Toney take ineffective PES and do get caught
Taking a PES doesn't make a great fighter

PES don't not give you sklills, but they enhance somethings I suppose.
I take natural amino acids and most people who train take vitamins or something - BUT knowingly taking a substance you know to be illegal is wrong, but mistakingly taking it is ifferent I suppose.
I WONDER WHAT SHANES ESTRANGED WIFE HAS TO SAY NOW?
MAYBE THERE IS MORE TO COME OUT IN THE DIVORCE!
Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
Yes, not sure if you are trying to say that Marg is always this easy to hit, or just for this fight (as some people are saying cause of the weight). I would say he was this easy to hit throughout his career.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:WOW just watched for the second time, what a performance, very happy to be proved wrong, thought Shane was shot based on the Mayorga performance I didnt even see

Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
I don't know about allegations of any special substance on the hand wraps. I thought the hardness was to do with the amount of tape used.
I would like to hear more about this though, as I was amazed at how quickly and how badly marked up Cotto became during his fight with Tony.
As you say, few of Margarito's shots landed flush enough to really make an impact on Shane, because he was constantly riding out the effects of the shots.
One thing which was impressive about shane was how flexible he seemed, the way he was dipping to the sides enabled him to take away Margarito's power by leaning away from body and head shots, and also to generate gterrific leverage into his own right hands, left hooks and body shots.

Cotto does mark up, but he didn't even take that many shots from Margarito before he looked like he'd been through a threshing machine.DG. wrote:Cotto always gets busted up really, Judah smashd is face in.

This does appear to be something slightly different however - it looks like they found some sort of hardening agent. There's been no denial yet either from Margarito.
If, and we don't know for sure, this is true, then it is absolutely disgraceful, and Margarito's trainer should be banned.
Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
It was simply awesome to watch Mosley turn back the clock and dominate such a feared fighter.
I'm not sure which was more impressive, this stoppage of Tony, or Pacquiao's destruction of De La Hoya, many comparisons can be made. After Pacquiao is finished with Hatton, lets see him take on Mosley! A real 50/50 fight IMO.

Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
Very enjoyable performance to watch from Mosely. Could not miss with that right hand - Margartio took some serious punishment, amazed he didn't mark up more.
The drug thing with Mosely does spoil it a bit for me - even if he hadn't used EPO to aid him for this fight who's to say he wasn't on something else? Once a cheat always a cheat I'm afraid.
And now this glove plater thing with Margarito - very bad news if proven.

Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
I agree that performance enhancers don't necessarily influence skill (hence the preception it's worse when an athlete or cyclist cheats than a footballer for example) but it's still cheating and betrays a lack of confidence in those skills being enough to do the job.
In terms of blame, I don't blame Mosley for fighting on; the blame is squarely at the door of the sport, which turns a blind eye to the problem.
The reason it hacks me off so much is that I agree with everything that's being said about the greatness of the performance, but what should be a great moment for the sport isn't for me because the sport has shirked its responsibility.

Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
Yeah that was amazing stuff from Shane - seemed like a man who was prepared for the fight of his life, against a man who thought we was just going to walk through the other guy, which is the way I saw it too....Shane's trainer was doing a great job too: telling Mosley, you're gonna swim without getting wet - which summed it up perfectly.
Thought the ref was doing his best to get Marg killed in there, no way he needed to take all those final full blooded shots, it was obvious the man was done some time before..

Re: SPOILER MARGARITO MOSLEY SPOILER
It was certainly Shane's night...
An insired performance, against a hittable (if fierce) opponent. Margarito not a great fighter, but a very big ask for an oldie like Shane.
Margarito's wraps issue took the emphasis away from Mosley's own cheating in the DLH rematch (a fight that most felt he lost anyway). A more urgent, pressing thing for HBO to talk about.

i think the ref got it right. you dont stop a fight until the guy is truly finished.
what are you getting soft? go back thru the history of boxing, graziano/zale, rocky/don cockell, theres many who went on way beyond this margarito stoppage.

Yes, the ref could have stepped in before than final salvo left Margarito sprawled helplessly on the floor.MightyWarrior wrote:Yeah that was amazing stuff from Shane - seemed like a man who was prepared for the fight of his life, against a man who thought we was just going to walk through the other guy, which is the way I saw it too....Shane's trainer was doing a great job too: telling Mosley, you're gonna swim without getting wet - which summed it up perfectly.

To be honest, I think Tony's team might as well have pulled him at the end of the 8th - he was clearly walking out there to get stopped.

Yeah it's just I get a sick feeling coming on seeing a fighter as brave and durable as Marg getting pounded to the canvas like that, then being sent back for more.
You just know, to get the almost superhumanly tough Mexican to that point, some serious damage to the head has to be inflicted.
I was just hoping the corner or ref would save him from a career ending beating in there, which they didn't. Fighters like Marg have to be saved from themselves sometimes.
