Keep it up...
Bunce is singly the biggest reason why there is so much boxing on our screens - he has persuaded, bullied, threatened and whatever TV executives that boxing is the way forward and for that he deserves all of our support instead of comments which he does not deserve after all what he has done!!!
I love Buncey, but this statement is ridiculous. The guy who has done more to make sure that boxing is on TV is allegedly allegedly. He got ITV back in, he got Setanta involved. Ironically, by showing them the potential, he fell out with both. It was only then that they saw they could make it into a success and only in the past six months that Buncey got such a big on-screen presence. To make out that he is in somehow involved in negotiations for TV rights or telling them what to buy is laughable. After all, his biggest employer until recently was the BBC - various TV gigs plus a couple of shows on BBC London Radio - and he didn't persuade them to buy any fights, did he?
Where his weekly show is such a success is that they haven't gone down the Sky Sports News road of just plugging their own fights - therefore completely undermining themselves as a legitimate new source. Sky Sports News haven't mentioned Calzaghe's fights against Kessler, Hopkins or Jones, which must be hugely embarrassing for any actual journalists there.
Although you might be right about Buncey's lack of direct influence, he's great at what he does.

And you are so, so wrong about FW.

That's the thing - you can't say what you like. Of course, one shouldn't be able to say what one likes, if you get my drift, but defamation laws over here are absolute shite...which is why Britain has a vast amount of 'libel tourists'.

Top man makes me laugh, but he also makes me listen. Yes he comes out with outrageous comments sometimes but thats him, its in his character, and it all helps to draw in more viewers. A lot of what he says is a bit tongue in cheek and has to be seen in that light. Lets not get too serious, he isnt.

Clever man Hitler, he gave German kids what their parents couldnt afford in his youth camps. Getting the youngsters on his side, and their parents support as well did Hitler a lot of good. Nice Mr Hitler, lets join his Nazi party, hes a great leader for our country. They didnt realise of course that there was a very sinister and wicked side to him and that he had sucked them in, and their children in a very false and cunning way.

As for Buncey.....love his show but he was talking bollocks on Saturday night. For a guy who knows a fair bit about the sport he should know better than to dismiss Adamek (who by the way would most likely kick Macca's arse)and say will probably be defending his title in Germany from now on. He won his title in America against a Yank and a tough and talented one at that. Does anyone seriously see Maccarinelli doing that? The Pole has been based stateside for years, has to my mind never fought in Germany (not in a major fight anyway) and will be fighting Banks next month. Something the alleged one seems incapable of delivering.
Buncey keeps on banging on now about how Macca is unstoppable. Yet Steve kept on pointing out how he thought he never had a hope against Haye. And since getting taken out there he'd achieved a career defining KO over Mathew Ellis.
If Macca's so f*cking good why hasn't Warren been able to get a worthwhile fight in 10 months?
According to Buncey he would spark Huck without breaking sweat. Okay so frickin' fight the guy then. I like Macca but can't understand all of this smoke getting blown up his arse when he's done sweet FA.
How about Enad Licina? He looked pretty damn credible to me. Indeed Cruiser is one of the strongest weight classes in boxing with tough fight from 1 through 40 in the rankings. But Macca has only beaten 1 of them. And in all of the years he's been a 'world' champion. Its absurd.

We wanted more boxing on our screens - Bunce and Setanta have given us exactly that, we wanted a weekly boxing discussion programme, Bunce and Setanta are giving us that and it seems after its success ITV 4 were starting to dip their toes in the water.

I will state again - Boxing enthusiasts are in debt to Bunce - and personally I do not give a f*ck what he is like as long as our great sport is continually shown!!!
I only wish you could have been more candid with your real views here spud, for some reason you fail to mention Bunce's stirling work in promoting a lasting peace in the Middle East, his refreshing and daring suggestions on how the world can overcome the current credit crunch crisis, and his tireless work on behalf of the homeless. We are all in debt to his squawky hyperbole and should be on our knees praying to small toy Bunce figures five times daily, at least.

I think Buncey is excellent. Sure he comes out with some exaggerations but he's doing a great job - explains things very well to the non-boxing fanatic and anyone really sticking the boot is just probably jealous that he has a job you can only dream of.

Keep up the good work Buncey!

fluxstuff wrote:Look, I like his enthusiasm, i like that he loves these guys, but in the last 6 months I've heard him say that:

Hatton would beat Cotto
Derry matthews is world class

These are off the top of my head. I'm so worn out of his hyperbolic exaggeration on these things. Hatton doesn't possess Margo's punch resistance, so if he took the same sort of shellacking that Cotto gave out in those first 5 rounds, there's be no Ricky Hatton. people complete overrate Hatton based on one world-class performance and then dominating guys who he should have beaten.

Steve, if you read this - you're entitled to your (undoubtedly) informed opinion, but please think before you make such OTT claims such as those.
In the light of the way Cotto crumbled against Margarito is saying that he thinks Hatton would beat Cotto so terribly outlandish? :o

It's just an opinion dude, relax.

I think people are misinterpreting what he says. Regarding the Hatton-Cotto thing I'm pretty sure he said 'I spoke to Ricky and HE thinks Cotto's heart can be broken'. So he is merely passing on someone elses opinion.

My only problem with Buncey's hyperbole, is that in moments of extreme excitement, which seem to border on the literally climactiv for Steve, he occasionally misleads the ill-informed. It's fine for those who know enough about the sport to take it with a pinch of salt, or at least question his comments internally, but other people are going to take every word literally.

Why not have other guest pundits on the show as a foil to Buncey?

I never agreed with what Bunce has said about Adamek; he's far too dismissive. Before he was talking down Dawson at the time of the Johnson fight, saying the only guy he beat was a Pole with a "completely padded record." Adamek's record certainly was padded before coming to America, but since has waged war twice for the WBC title with Paul Briggs, destroyed Thomas Ulrich in Germany (has Macca had a title defence as good as this the LEAST of Adamek's title fights, I'm not sure). Then after losing title to Dawson - no shame there - stopped a buch of guys at cruiser, incl O'Neil Bell. Then went on to beat Cunningham, IBF/Ring cruiser champ.

How about Macc's padding, etc etc etc.

Bunce obviously had to put down Dawson as potential Calzaghe opponent, so has to make Dawson look poor.

On Sat, I took objection to his comments. Now, "Cunningham is so unappealing and boring, he loses a split decision to a Pole" in America. Bunce is leading us to think that Adamek was given the benefit of the doubt, cos Cunningham is nothing. Cunningham sadly doesn't have a good fan base, but he was down 3 bleeding times, so now wonder Adamek got the decision. Also, Adamek has fought in Chiicago and has a big fan base there, another overlooked factor. Obviously, Cunningham is not boring cos the Adamek fight has been regarded as one of the best cruiser fights since Holyfield-Qawi 1.

To the most of the world, Enzo is one of the most unappealing cruiserweights. They think he's an absolute bum outside of the UK, even if they're wrong.

Glad ppl picked up on this.

I mean, what the hell has Macca done to put him up there with Adamek and Cunningham?

Macca has potential, can be nice to watch, but he lost 50% of his meaningful fights (win over Braithwaite, KO defeat to Haye). What makes Mac so appealing etc

Mac has a good fight with Ramirez coming up, that said, thankfully a tough and worthy opponent. Hope Enzo does well, and picks up a big fight. If it does, it may be vs someone like Adamek or Cunningham. If it happens on Setanta, no doubt Buncey will be bigging up the task at hand...

Is Enzo going to be back on Setanta, I wonder?

I would love to see Enzo in there with a strong (if limited) fighter like Cap'n Huck or Enad Licana. Looks like Huck is gunning fro Arslan though.
