46-year old Evander Holyfield has refuted the media rumours of a proposed £50m split purse fight to step in the ring with 'Iron' Mike Tyson for a third time.

"It’s not true Evander is fighting Tyson. A third fight with Tyson is just not happening.

"In fact we are talking to Valuev’s team about a re-match in April.

"Tyson is walking around at something like 280lbs and couldn’t fight if he wanted to — anyway he’s a coward." said Holyfield's manager Ken Sanders yesterday.

Tyson against McBride

Mike's last fight was when he weighed a svelte-like 233lb in a KO loss to Kevin McBride back in 2005. Since then the former 'baddest man on the planet' has been involved in numerous court cases for different minor offences.

Meanwhile Holyfield has continued to train and fight with decent success - arguably beating the current WBA champion Nikolai Valuev in many observer's eyes but losing the fight on debatable points decision only last month.

Just knew this was bullshit - there's just not the interest in this fight.

As I said before, if it didn't/doesn't happen, it wouldn't be anything to do with the level of interest from the public or finances. Sounds as if Holyfield's not interested purely because of the potential to get a belt.

Imagine if Evander got the decision against Valuev (or wins a rematch) making this a world title fight.

Then a blown up and desperate Tyson lands a big right hand and wins the world title back at 42

Now that would be a story...

Interesting that team Holyfield refute the claims but then calls Tyson a coward.

Tyson''s refuted it too, see today's FightNews.

Anyway, I'd hardly question Holyfield's courage for not wanting to fight a washed up, three-years-inactive, fat, 42-year-old Tyson when he's willing to go in with youngsters like Ibragimov and monsters like Valuev...

It is a fight that I would watch (being a long-time Tyson fan)... Though I can see little prospect of Mike winning... :shame:
