Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
Apparently Enzo Macc is down to fight Victor Ramirez - the guy who in his last fight made Alex "The best thing since sliced bread" Alexeev quit on his stool. The fight is on the undercard of the proposed Barrera-Khan fight. Dunno if you have seen the Alexeev fight but Ramirez is a short, stocky come forward slugger. He's pretty limited and Alexeev was taking him to school. But he's nails tough and looks to have a bit of a dig. I'd expect Enzo to stop him around the eighth but will make a good fight and personally it adds extra incentive for me to go to the card if the Barrera fight is 100% confirmed.

Looking like it'll be for the WBO title as well. Did'nt see the Alexeev fight, but Ramirez bust a few parlays with that result.
Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
Good fight.
Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
Ramirez looked bull-like. Alexeev kept hitting him but Ramirez was going nowhere. A betting man would either be interested in a Maccarinelli points or a Ramirez late stoppage victory.

This fight will be a very good gauge as to how hard Big Mac really hits.
Good match.

Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
Right, so would Enzo had taken on Alekseev had the Russian beaten Ramirez? Is that how it works?
Very much doubt it.
Still, Enzo should be experienced enough to handle a raw slugger like Ramirez. Enzo doesn't seem to have too much trouble boxing and being forced back, unlike Alekseev, who looked like he'd never pushed on the backfoot throughout his whole boxing life against Ramirez.
Then again, if Ramirez lands![[icon_e_surprised.gif] :oo](./images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif)

Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
well we knew it wouldn't be banks or cunningham.
ramirez won the eliminator and deserves his chance.
it's a fight enzo should be winning though.
enzo on pts.

Exactly. My confidence is so low at the moment, I don't even look forward to fights now because it could be a predicatable, and disappointing, "change of opponent."leforge wrote:This could be a good fight hopefully it stays not end up Macc v keeton.

I think we found that out when he damn near removed Marcelo Dominguez's head! Actually, that is the nearest indicator for me - sooner or later he'll catch up with the little Argentine unless his opponent lands a freaky one first.Mick the Mechanic wrote:This fight will be a very good gauge as to how hard Big Mac really hits.

Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
Big-hitting Enzo Maccarinelli takes on Victor Emilio Ramirez for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title on the big Khan-Barrera show in Manchester on March 14.
Maccarinelli has already held the WBO title but lost it to Bermondsey's David Haye in the second round of a surprisingly one-sided encounter last year in London. When Haye then moved up to heavyweight, a deeply wounded Maccarinelli went into hard training for a shot at the vacant title against unbeaten Kronk star Jon Banks in London in December in an effort to put the defeat firmly behind him. The American subsequently pulled out injured and a whole series of opponents, for one reason or another, failed to sign or make it any further than the pre-fight medical (Banks now challenges for another version of the world cruiserweight title). Poor Maccarinelli, in frightening shape, bulked up a few pounds and took it out on Blackpool heavyweight Matthew Ellis in the second round of a non-title affair.
Ramirez may also feel the force of any remaining frustration.
The 24-year-old Argentine comes off a stunning nine-round retirement stoppage of previously unbeaten Russian banger Alexander Alexeev in Germany in January to secure this shot. Southpaw Alexeev was widely regarded as the best, most dangerous prospect in the cruiserweight division but the rugged, determined, strong-looking Ramirez, nicknamed "El Tyson del Abasto", stayed right with him in the early danger rounds and by the middle rounds Ramirez was bossing the exchanges. He really dominated the fateful ninth, and Alexeev's corner bailed out their man at the bell. Ramirez rolled round the canvas with joy. The visitor took his latest winning run to eight but is relatively inexperienced at 14-1 (12) and turned pro at heavyweight, where his only loss came on a majority six-round decision in Buenos Aires in 2006. In fact, Alexeev stands out as the sole cruiserweight 'name' on Ramirez's record.
Ramirez will be giving away real experience to 28-year-old Enzo (and real height and reach) but his drive and durability make him a threat, and he obviously whacks a bit. Like most Argentine fighters Ramirez is 'cuter' in the ring than he looks, although Alexeev, it has to be said, 'gassed' pretty spectacularly after a series of quick wins. He did find the energy to hurt Ramirez with a body shot, and Maccarinelli goes well downstairs, particularly with the left hook. Enzo is also quick for a big man, quicker than Ramirez.
Ultimately, the giant Swansea man hits every bit as hard as Alexeev and, trained by Enzo Calzaghe, is hardly likely to run out of steam. He survives a few sticky patches to punch out a late stoppage in a fight that is not for the faint-hearted.

Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
Good matchup and will be an acid test to see how Enzo can cope with a come forward slugger who is trying to rip his head off. All we need now is Barrera to acknowledge he is turning up and we got a good show in the pipeline!

Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
If the Barrera fight is certain, you have to admit this show is pretty darn good! Three competitive title bouts at world(ish) class level topping the bill, when was the last time that happened in Britain?
Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
I think they have to have a good 3 fight show to justify the PPV. Of course if some of the opponents aren't turning up, well that can't be helped can it.
Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
Also Pryce v Hall is a good fight as well.
Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
I predict Macca will do at least as good a job as he did on Dominguez
Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
Thought Mac did a poor job v Dominguez, until the right uppercut. Dominguez somehow got up, but the ref wouldn't let him carry on typically.
Couldn't keep him off with the jab and was getting worked over inside.
But Mac does seem to have drastically improved since then.
If Ramirez can roll in and slip Mac's jabs, Mac will have a very hard night. But I don't see Ramirez as being a cagey sort ala Dominguez & Jorge Castro.

Re: Maccaranelli vs Ramirez
Macaroni complained on Buncey's program that he gets alot of abuse on boxing forums, so please don't mention Lee Swaby or David Haye.
