At what point should this fight have been stopped?

Post by whicker »

When should this fight have been stopped?

Just saw this on You Tube- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Wa7Dv40SpT8

Just curious (there is of course no right or wrong answer) -

When do you think a pro referee would have stopped this?

I'd say on about 4:05 , when his guard drops, or if not then, certainly on 4:11

Even on 4:40, where the guy seems unable to stay upright, the ref looks like he is starting a COUNT before the towel comes in.

Christ that ref shouldn't be let in a ring again. I know it's unlicenced, but that's disgraeful.

I watched the fight without looking at the clock and I agree that it should be stopped at 4:05 (I think i had 4:04 but six of one...)

But as to why he gave a standing count when the guy literally couldn't stand... ridiculous. Dangerous.

4:10 at the latest.... Can't believe the ref let it go on as long as he did.

Should have stopped it after the 1st left hook landed flush after the knockdown. Ref was bobbins.

I would have been quite happy to see it stopped around 4.06 and absolutely definately at 4.12. Disgusting.

Darren Dorrington was an ABA finalist, took Calzaghe the distance in that fight, in fact he was the only one to take JC the distance in any of the Welshman's ABA campaigns.
Sad to see Darren losing like this

4:05 is when I would stopped it, and that was a joke - that lad could've been seriously hurt.

should have been stopped after the first kD, the lad was unsteady and the ref did not check his balance by inviting him to walk a couple of steps.

It's all a bit of mute point, it's an unlicensed fight, they are supposed to go on too long

Horror show, the f****er should have stopped it after first KD, Dorrington's co-ordination had clearly gone. I was really hoping someone would jump in and spark the idiot ref out, what is he blind?
Lucky his opponent decided Dorrington had had enough before the referee did.

This was on kickboxing show after Darrens pro career was over and the ref is usually on cagerage .

From what I've seen cagefight refs tend to be quite good.

The Ref can't decide if it's a semi Pro or Ama bout (hence the standing 8 count) and doesnt really know when to stop the fight. He looks very jumpy and unsure wether to stop the bout at about 4-15ish.

On top of that if the ref was a tit and couldn't make the call the corner (who in may of these cases are the boxers mates with no experiience) should have had the towel in at 4-08 ish ffs.

Stuff like this gives Boxing a bad name with many as this is what they see more of (white collar) and to them boxing is boxing.

Thats shocking! :o A good ref would have stopped that at 4:05 when the guy was on the ropes after just getting up and he gets knocked sideways by a swinging left hook. Can't believe the amount of punishment he let the lad take. He hadn't recovered from the knock down and he couldn't defend himself. His corner should have realised that to and thrown the towel in sooner. Glad he won't be reffing any of my fights.

Fair enough, the fight should have been stopped before it was, BUT the shots landing were mainly arm shots, no real venom in them.

If you look at the shot Milton Mcrory took from Donald Curry after being getting up from the knockdown on extremely unsteady legs, I would have said that that was far more more dangerous than this. The Kahn v Prescott fight should also have been stopped before the knockout, he was in no shape to continue after the knockdown.

Ashley was my mate - I didn't go to this as I was at the V festival, but know a few lads that did.

I heard that Dorrington was p1ssed going into this fight, but asked a lad who was in Ashleys corner about this over xmas - he said that Dorrington was mustard on the pads and looked well sharp when they were in the dressing room.

The fight was in Bristol with a load of local lads there - he was fighting a lad from Plymouth (althoguh I think he was announced from being from Devon), the ref was always going to biased to Dorrington, although I agree it shoudl have been stopped earlier.
