Will Carl Froch improve..........

...... his defense? He got hit far too many times when he won the WBC belt. Now he has reached World level he will be fighting the best and although he can take shots the cumalative effect could see him getting beaten. I think he needs to work hard on his defense if he wants to be successful with the likes of Kessler. Immitatating his idol Naz wont work at that level for him. Naz was so much faster and fluent. So will he just carry on with the same style or will he make changes. Maybe he cant adapt after all these years.

answer is no - what you see is what you get - I suggest regardless of peoples perceptions of Froch's frailities in his defence - it is going to take a fantastic fighter to beat him - the only one at present that I can see is Kessler.

I think his defence is probably better than he showed in that fight. His plan for that fight was to make it a real war because he didn't think Pascal would have stamina in the second half of the fight. I think he didn't really respect Pascal's power either. If he fought a Kessler, Calzaghe or Taylor, he would have to fight a different fight.

I'm not so sure its his defense that needs improving but rather his tempremant. He can box better than he showed at times against Pascal. I think he needs to calm down a bit and start boxing more. I rate Froch and think he would be a handful for any of the guys at or around 168, but I think he allowed the occassion of the Pascal fight to get to him and was maybe a bit to eager to put on a show.

At 31, I think what you see is what you're gonna get. He's always going to have that left hand low, he's been doing it for his entire career, even as an amateur. The question is, can he do what Calzaghe has done, which is to take an unorthodox style which works for you, and still make the little adjustments mid-fight? Joe's style has its flaws, defensively, as does Carl's. But Calzaghe managed to find a way to win, whether by simply upping the punch output (Hopkins), or by upping the jab and fighting more on the outside (Kessler). Froch showed signs of that by (ironically) going to a more classical style against Pascal, working the jab, and winning rounds.

I don't think we'll see a massive change. Froch is clearly confident his chin will hold up (although it might do him a favour to not try and prove that every fight), and he'll keep throwing the shots from his waist. Froch against Kessler would be the acid test as to whether that style really works for him.
