Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
That's pretty cool that they already have their dates set. Now I can plan for it.
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
It's in my region this year! Only a 6 hour drive for me. Prepare to be bored senseless in SLC, you non-Rocky Mountain people! ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
I've never been to SLC. It would be a new experience so I wouldn't be bored.
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
Kolya - I was in SLC for the Western Trials and was NOT bored at all! I did the Morman Temple tour - beautiful buildings - you can take public transportation to that. Had a car (or I would have been bored) - drove to Park City one day; drove to Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake one day - I found plenty to do. 8)
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
So are those the famous things to see?
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
The Mormon Temple complex, definitely. Park City is where the Winter Olympics were held and is a quaint mountain town with lots of good shopping and eating. I found Antelope Island all by myself - about an hour or so north of SLC (you can look it up on the web).So are those the famous things to see?
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
I'm sure I will like the area as I love mountains. I thoroughly enjoyed myself in Lake Placid, NY, Chattanooga, TN, Las Vegas, NV (went to the mountains nearby), and Colorado Springs, CO because of the mountains. And why do I live in Michigan? Yes, I love lakes and especially the Great Lakes.
I am hoping I get to go to Salt Lake City. If so, I will definitely go to the Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island.

I knew there was at least one reason I liked you!Las Vegas, NV (went to the mountains nearby
You will need a car in SLC to get around. I was lucky in that there were only evening sessions at the Westerns so had the daytime to sightsee. Park City also has a training center for the free style skiiers. It was fun watching them ski down a ramp and somersault into a swimming pool in full gear.

What I really meant was prepared to be bored after you all get hosed, but hey. The only bummer is it's near impossible to get into the bars in Utah.

Now - that's a really negative comment :!:
There aren't any - they have "clubs" that you have to pay to join. We got around that at the Rodeway Inn by ordering food in the bar. It was definitely different! The only bummer is it's near impossible to get into the bars in Utah.

Yes, we went to Mt. Charleston. Jordan and I went hiking and went up near the peak. He wanted to go the whole way, but I forced him to turn around as we were running out of daylight. We hiked for hours and it was fun. He made me nervous walking near the edge of the trail even though there were big dropoffs. We always go out and enjoy the natural sights. He was only 12 at the time so we had to stay out of the casinos. I don't gamble much so it was no big deal for me.boxmel wrote:I knew there was at least one reason I liked you!Las Vegas, NV (went to the mountains nearbyDid you go to Mt. Charleston? We spent one Thanksgiving there at a great hotel and had a wonderful turkey dinner. We have also explored the Red Rock area and the NA petroglpyhs - much nicer than The Strip and gambline.

Try using a "sarcastic" smiley in the future.Forums really don't convey sarcasm well. I know the way the bars or "clubs" in Utah work, that's why I was joking about the difficulty of getting in.
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
I think we will see a lot of new faces at the NGG. Many of the familiar faces have turned pro.
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
Who thinks that Rau'shee Warren and Michael Hunter will compete in the National Golden Gloves?
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
I think it would be a first for Rau'shee. Hunter was the runner-up in 2006.
Re: 2009 National Golden Gloves
NY Metro has started their Golden Gloves tournament - the non-competition part of it. The deadline to enter their tournament has come and gone - it was January 2nd. Now they have physicals from January 4th through the 13th. The first day of competition is January 28th.

He told me that the only national tournament he'd compete in before the next Olympic Trials will be the yearly U.S. Championships.Dennis wrote:Who thinks that Rau'shee Warren and Michael Hunter will compete in the National Golden Gloves?
